Surely you could fill a suitcase full of hatching eggs for the trip back couldn't you?

Supposedly they are importing the Braekel to use for meat because they aren’t as prone to health problems like the Cornish crosses.

I would try to sneak some hatching eggs home if I got my hands on some Braekel hatching eggs but I don’t believe they have been imported yet.

So here’s the story: I’m getting a true Black Ameraucana pullet on Wednesday along with Wendy (hen pictured below) so the man I’m buying Wendy from hatched her and her brother (also pictured below) from eggs that he was told were Ameraucana eggs. So I was thinking that Wendy and her brother were an unrecognized color variety of Ameraucana. But then someone pointed out that her lacing looked so much like a buff laced Wyandotte’s lacing, which made me think that Wendy is an Easter Egger. But I know that both the pea comb and the rose comb are dominant and Wendy has a pea comb. So if Wendy is the product of an Ameraucana and a buff laced Wyandotte which comb would be dominant? She does have a pea comb and her body isn’t bulky like a Wyandotte which makes me think that she may be an untecognized variety of Ameraucana. What do you guys think?

Here're some factoid -- Just had occasion to take a look at the old spreadsheet that we tracked weight on -- when several people were first raising the Cream Legbar and we tried to keep some "scientific" notes. At 16 weeks, only 1 chicken broke the 4# mark in the Cream Legbars entered (small 'n' though ) --- All these cockerels were over 4#

Gathering eggs today and all three of my remaining Cream Legbars laid. One is 6 + years old, and one is 4 years old...and the other is younger. The 6-year old's egg is probably pullet sized and she is probably laying 1 or 2 a week. I'm amazed.

Daily I pick up eggs:
A pen of 6 chickens 2 are splits - picked up 8 eggs
A pen of 5 chickens all LPIDS my breeders - picked up 7 egs.
A pen of 2 one is LPID and one is split - picked up 1
A pen of 3 all LPID - picked up 3 eggs.
Even my OEGB laid today. They must be liking the switch to spring and the day of sunshine yesterday. It's 2:30 in the afternoon.

So all 3 CLs laid today and I just saw the Isabel go into the nesting box. --- It must have been pretty early when I picked up eggs yesterday -- but the important point is that these chickens are no slouches in the egg laying line! To me that's important. It pretty much means that everyone of the chickens on the place produced an egg today (if the Isbar comes through -- she is a really good layer of consistent green, big eggs. And the extra eggs must be from yesterday after I tended to the chickens. They're nice eggs too.

Not really. I’m currently in Israel so I’m 7 hours ahead of the east coast. I’ll be back in New Jersey this Tuesday evening!
I love your thread and I want to create a new breed of chicken. I won’t say what breeds I will be using in my creation but here’s a list of what my breed will have: long tail & light weight body, rose comb, barring, an all black head and hackles, lays 4-5 medium-large white eggs a week, and slate legs. I’m open to critique as I am not so well versed with chicken genetics.

These aren't breeds that I'm familiar with -- but I think that according to Ameraucana SOP abiding people if it isn't a recognized color -- it automatically becomes an Easter Egger.... Personally I think EEs are cool chickens and had one once. EE's need more praise for what they are.

Someplace there is a chart on combs -- my guess is that the offspring will look much like the hen...if you pair this chicken with a pea comb, I think you will get pea comb...

Thank you. I can’t wait to get home. Unfortunately my town doesn’t allow cockerels or roosters so it will be a couple years before I can even start on my breed project
