OMG Just think if poor Kubota doesn't make it you may end up on Rachel Ray! So sorry, I just thought this thread needed a laugh and you too. You're doing a great job lori and I hope to see you on Oprah...Go Kubota. BTW my 6 chickens love wheat spaghetti. I think they think they're worms. I bet Kubota will love it. Good Luck
no Oprah for me.... I don't fly and sure don't need cameras at my old home!! I guess we can see if Mr. B will ship Kubota there though LOL
That is awesome about the radio show... I hope folks will pray for Kubota!
I hope your hen continues to do well, Noble.
Today has a good report for those in Kubota fandom - he has a little more color to comb / wattle. I got up early this morning (at 730, after going to bed at 4) and unwrapped his leg, gave him his shot and fed him. I didn't do my proposed schedule of sugardine, etc.
I left him unwrapped for a few hours and when I went out this afternoon he had eaten! I got ready to soak him in povadine dilution, then I had a brilliant (read that as "obvious") idea - put him in his sling while his leg soaked and I could get my supplies ready to wrap him. He was NOT happy!!
Once I had his leg soaking he settled down some, but THEN, genius that I am, I noticed how longingly he was looking at the grass around him. So, I set him out thinking he would lay there and peck the ground. Nope!! Our boy hopped along for about 3 hops before he settled. Now granted this wasn't much, and he moves around in the kennel - but this was a specific, goal oriented movement to get to a spot in the sun with lots of grass. He even got up and hopped again when my little foster horse came over to check him out (after fluffing up and velociraptor growls didn't work). He talked a little bit as he sat there pulling on grasses. I loved it!
I caught him up, fought him into the sling to soak for a bit and then wrapped him for the night. I fed him again and he ate all of his raspberries right then, so I got him some more. I went to run some errands (canning strawberry fig preserves!YUM) and when I got back he had cleaned his plate (raspberries, egg, yogurt and layer pellets soaked in rberry juice) !!! I fed him some more and he went right to eating, even the pellets.
Tonight I asked my dad ahead of time to make sure the trailer door gets closed if it starts raining. I'll also be able to leave this evening on my lunch and make sure he still has plenty of food and fresh water since he is eating so well.
Tomorrow may have its own set of challenges, but today was a gold star day for Kubota. In the morning I will talk to the vet (let's call her Dr. Wife) about any continuing care we might can do for him.
Sorry this is so long, but some good things to share!
Well I just had to say something here..... I am usually a lurker but this thread has kept me on pins and needles.... Told my DH what was going on. I don't watch soaps on tv but this is what it reminds me of...a soap opera for chicken lovers...
Narrator: What will happen next to Kubota? Will Mr. B give him up? and What about the girls he left behind? This and more on General Chicken Hospital.
