Lawnmower vs Rooster GRAPHIC PICS/ Saying Goodbye

I'm sure everyone who has followed this thread is very heavy hearted today for your loss of Kabuto. You have had a mentally and physically exhausting couple of weeks. You should try and get back to normal and have a little breathing time for yourself. When you put this much work into something it leaves a big gap when it is finally over. By now, you know what all the people in this community think of you and now just sit back a little and relax. You have other chickens to take care of!! Great job.

Lori, that rooster got more love and affection and attention in the last 2 weeks than he ever had before ,.. and if you hadn't taken him in he would have suffered horribly,.. but instead he had you to give him all the time and care anyone could. You did great girl! God knows best. You are now a certified rooster repair specialist and your little flock will be blessed by all that you have learned in your trial.
You made his life better.

I'm so sorry to hear he didn't make it. My girl Trudy passed yesterday also-I know she has a hot looking roo to look up in chicken heaven. You went above and beyond what most people would do. We all learned a lot about caring for an injured bird from your experiance and you have helped more birds than you imagine. I hope the sun comes out for you.

It is so sweet of you all to offer such kind words. It has definitely help soothe the hurt. My vet doesn't think that I did anything wrong with the penicillin shot - she said as much weight as he lost probably a combo of the stress, pain, struggling before going on his back and chill of being wet (dang me for not putting him under a brooder light) just wore him down. She said he had run into the perfect storm (no pun intended) with the rain and our weather getting cooler while he was so depleted. So yeah, I have a few regrets but my vet said with him not gaining weight and not eating well it was just a matter of time. I don't know if she was being kind or honest, but I'll take it so that I can live with myself.

Big Poppy (my EE roo caught by the dogs) is just missing a handful of feathers / tail feathers. He is up showing off this morning with his bald butt.

Thank you all again... truly.

I am so very sorry for Kubota. I read this post last night and couldn't stop crying

I kept trying to post a repsonse but couldn't see straight so waited til today today. I still am upset, didn't want to read any of the post here at work for fear of tearing up and crying. But not going to happen. He was one lucky bird to have had you to take care of him while you did. If your neighbor had kept him in that pen then he would have either been killed by another rooster or would not have made it as long as he did with all of your love and compassion.

Are you a nurse because you have a wonderfully huge heart and I would have done the same thing as you. Keep fighting til can't fight anymore.

to you and am glad to hear that your EE rooster is doing well today.

Awww crap! I am in shock! K I've had my tears but you know what sweetie? It was 'his' time as we all have our pre-destined time & his last weeks were beautiful & loving cuz of you. You know what else hun? You will see him again, someday. I do believe that. We all go to the same place when it's our time and just like in 'Rainbow Bridge'...they are there to greet you. I have lost critters that tore me up for weeks & it still hurts but I know we will meet again. They just went first is all. Me and all of your other followers will never forget you or Kubota. We will carry this journey with us until it is our time and hey....perhaps we will all sit down & eat corn on the cob together

Girl...you have many stars in heaven. Live the rest of your Journey with your head held very high because of who you are. You are one of those who carry a heart of gold, the pure heart.

These are the parts in life that are the hardest & hit so close to the soul but Kubota knows how you tried & cared for him. He's probably watching you and all of us right now with a grin of love.

We will never forget any of this. It has hit people all over the world hard & we all feel your pain & are there for you.
Take care of yourself & the other critters...they are a lucky bunch!!

Thinking of you in Canada...
