LED's safe?

I need to add light to my coop, a chicken lady blog said to get CFL rope lights, but the store only has LED rope lights-- will they work? Would using a bulb be more of a fire risk than rope lights? What kind of bulb should I get if rope lights don't work?

We're thinking of just getting white string Christmas lights- will those be safe? Are they too much of a fire risk?
