Legbar X EE Gender?

barring is a sex linked trait. Since the Legbar female is barred, she passes a barring gene to her sons but not her daughters. Since the father was not barred, he did not pass any barring genes to the chick. So, any males from that cross would be barred, and females would not be barred. Barring in a chick presents as a white spot on the head.

I"m not 100% positive it would carry over in this cross, but I'm pretty sure.

Legbars are barred? I haven't heard that one yet.
If that doesn't work, it may be a cockerel; the tail is kinda short. Just my $.02

Well, some sad news. Got home from work and found the baby dead. The mama hen seems confused and lost. When will she go back to "normal". I feel bad for her.

Oh, no! So sorry! I don't know about the mama hen, but I imagine she will go back to normal, just not sure how long it'll take.

I threw some scratch out for them after I buried the chick and she's trying to call her over. Looks so confused when no one shows up. I'm hoping it doesn't take her long. I know she would have cut the umbilical cord soon and I'm anthropomorphizing her but it's horrible to see her like that. She was so good with the baby. I initially didn't want to hatch any eggs out but she went broody so I gave a single egg because I thought she wouldn't stick with it. So it was surprising to see the baby. I'm rambling.

Hope she's OK :(

Legbar is Leghorn x Barred. There's other things in the mix, but that's the gist of the origins.

All the auto sexing birds ending in -bar are barred. Welbars, Rhodebars, Legbars. The barring gene on the brown base color is what makes them auto sexing.

Oh, that's interesting.
