Hello, I have had chickens as a kid, but this is my first flock of chickens in 18 years, so I’m new to this in a way. Lol anyways I have a 15 week old leghorn pullet and I’m wondering what you guys think as far as maturity and egg laying. I’m thinking probably 4-5 weeks I should see an egg? I will be opening the nesting boxes this weekend once they hit the 16 week mark. What do you guys think?

She looks like 2-3 weeks off.
Ok, that’s what I’m hoping. I was reading where people said to look for bright red combs that are flopped over. Do they all flop over before they lay? I know they will as the hen gets older, but is that a for sure thing meaning their close to laying, or will they still lay if the comb is isn’t flopped over yet?

Some of mine had a bit of a flop going on .. some didn't. She really does look close. Looking at body..filled out pretty good now. They usually ..are..early to start. One of my favorite breeds because most of mine were the friendliest .. follow you around begging for treats. Watch where you step, I had to, always right there under foot. Sit down, right there. Begging at the door.

Love them. This girls comb is bigger, not floppy yet, but she was laying. Every day.
