Pullet has stopped laying!
Much better.
would I be checking FF or GG in that anatomy image?

EDIT- ok aart explained it is FF and near the vent, seems safe enough to look for thank you for answering my question.
EDIT P.S. also gives me a reason to see if chicken butt fluff is as soft as a cat belly.

Thanks @aart ! Appreciate the anatomy lesson! You have the patience of a saint to keep explaining to all us new chicken wranglers!

Feathers are a bit different. Soft yes, but not as warm.

Word of advice, start at the breast bone and slide backwards. Just jumping in you find the vent first. Not what I'm looking for, but I hope you enjoyed it...

Oh and on a positive note I might not be forced to euthanize my two unwanted roo's there is a Heritage breed rescue near us that my wife found, and they seem interested but as this is the Valley I bet they eat my rejects. I don't think they are good specimines worth saving as they all have bad combs and a single bent toe on each foot. One has a 75% complete gypsie face the others are full gypsies and one has some crazy white ears. They are all incredibly flawed on the roo side. My hens are all perfect. I wouldn't cull any of my hens they conform to the breed standard. Regardless to keep her happy I'll drive the one hour to the "rescue/BBQ" place and stop off for a Whataburger on the way back!

Thank you RUNuts that is what I was looking for I just do not want to harm my hens by some random poking and prodding. Of course mine hate to be touched I raised them to be chicken and was afraid if I handled them to much they would become man haters. Oh and I got some west side story ladies, they dominate the roos a lot. I was keying into their behavioral cues to sex them and the lady folk are quite pugalistic in this breed. You have to really look at their feathers to make sense of who is who.

The post right before the A&P photo from aart you linked is what I believe is wrong with poeple who create man hating chicken.... Sure I am willing to be wrong here but no chicken is allowed to dominate me or perch on me or even be level with my eyes ever without consequences.
"She's definitely my fave! She's super friendly - if squat down near her, she'll jump on on my shoulder and have a snuggle. And her eggs are just so pretty, so many different shades of green! :)"

EDIT-eww I bet I saw this person in a youtube video getting attacked by her chicken

Friday is here and 8 eggs were waiting. 1 brown. 7 white. I finally laid hands on the bottom of the totem pole leghorn. She is the one not laying. I'm guessing the other 7 were taking turns leveling out the production. Sneaky hens! Amazingly all 8 were in the same nest! Some one must have posted a laying schedule.

The leghorn not laying is the smallest and has the most boo boos on her comb. Must be a late bloomer.

I put a new feeder in the pen to test the water tightness. The girls drained it. Still have the other feeder in the doghouse, but it looks like they went after the new feeder first. Interesting. I'll raise the height on the doghouse one. But other than that, they should be identical. Location matters?

Now that I'm opening the gate to let them roam. We have a mob at the gate ready to get out. The dogs are rooting for them. I'm not amused.

What is the verdict? Cat belly or chicken butt fluff?

Wow. 2PM here and collected 8 eggs already. 1 brown. I still have hope for the second brown one today.

Had a Leghorn in the coop on the roost fussing loudly with one on the nest. I'm guessing she was either cheering the other hen on or saying get off the nest already. All 8 are still in the same nest. Neatly arranged around the golf balls still. Gonna need a bigger nest if the other 10 start!

Chickens having a field day eating pumpkin. Appears it is a hit.
