Let’s Talk About Bird Flu

It would appear so using the mat TOMTE provided, here it is again https://www.aphis.usda.gov/livestoc...za/hpai-detections/commercial-backyard-flocks I have it bookmarked and am checking it daily for my state. Currently Ohio is suffering the greatest with 5.8m birds affected cases and 25 commercial flocks affected.

Steep 4 bags of Bigelow green tea (decaffeinated) in a hot teakettle, and add a gallon of water to the tincture. My girls (and boys) love it.

They've been drinking it for 2 years now

Well after finding a "paper" on green tea extract to protect chickens from H5N1 (and being laughed at by a few people on this forum), I bought some green tea and and steeped the bags in a hot teakettle. 4 bags approximately per one gallon. I rung the bags out over the teakettle, and poured the green tea into a 2 gallon pail (with watering nipples).

I then added another gallon of water. Evidently it was so tasty the girls (and boys) went right to the pail.

I just used Bigelow decaffeinated green tea... and add more as needed.
I seriously doubt it will make any big difference, if it makes any difference at all. If it were that easy, hatcheries and factory farms wouldn't be losing birds to bird flu, because all they'd have to do is use green tea as a... Preventative? Treatment?

It might give your birds extra vitamins etc that they might otherwise be lacking, but there's no way the solution is as simple as green tea.

This one has hibiscus tea even better

Is there a simple english description of how this works? I don't speak science 😆

Interesting though. If there's any weight to this, why aren't corporations using tea for their chickens? Or are they? Is this a treatment or a preventative? Both? Are there any other studies on the effects of tea on bird flu that point to it working?

ETA unless I read wrong, all these tests were done in vitro. How would it translate to a living bird?

Yes but they are all in science speak.

There's such a low profit margin for commercial they probably aren't going to try it until the research is farther along.

It won’t fight off viruses but it has a lot of health benefits other than that but go easy on it, some say that green tea breaks down fat cells and boosts metabolism which is why it’s used as a weight loss supplement, so keep an eye on your girl’s body condition so they don’t get underweight.

We allow all of our chickens to free range all day every day, since the beginning. I did purchase 6 chicks this year and they went into the house brooder for 3 weeks. Then I stayed away from the chick dept of the stores, purchased feed and walked an aisle over, though know the virus could still be on me.

I like the green tea idea in water for the chickens.

We take EGCG, found in green tea, and Quercetin for our immune system. We began this early 2020 to boost immune during SAR CoV2, as we were not going to take a shot that was mostly not tested much. No offense to those who did. I was ill Jan 2, 2021 and tested positive. I began hydroxy that night and continued it for that week. Fever 102.5-101 for 2 days, then 101-100 and day 4 was tested. Positive. I say Yea! as I now have natural antibodies.

I write this as I believe the EGCG and Quercetin helped my immune system and then, of course, the Hydroxy on day 1. If it could boost my immune system and is safe for poultry, I would like to give this green tea water to our birds.

I need to read more about it for dosage. Maybe half day only water and second half tea water? Unsure, but I will read more.

Another thought, okay, I'm weird. We have wild birds but have not had a bird bath. I wonder if putting green tea water in the bath, might help with their immune system. Just my random thoughts.
