Lethargic, (Dehydrated...?) d’Uccle! Please Help!

Great news everyone! Dutchy’s crop is full! She is eating on her own, drinking on her own, and pooping too! I’m really happy about her progress and hopefully she’ll be able to back with the rest this evening. Today I’m going to set up a time lapse on her just to see what she does throughout the day!

So a really big thanks to all of you that helped me and Dutchy!

Dutchy got introduced into the flock this evening! We taught her to use the nipple waterer and then put her in when they were sleeping... they kind of gathered around her to “greet” her then they dispersed about the brooder going about their business... I think they remembered her! I’ll be monitoring her to make sure she’s eating and drinking in the big brooder. All is well!!!

Thank you so much for making my little baby well again! I would have been so sad if she has passed.

I know I’ve posted a bunch of posts in a row, but this will probably be my last on this thread...

Unfortunately Dutchy passed away during the night. I’m not sure if she would have died anyways or if it was because the other chicks accidentally trampled her, I just don’t know.

I feel really horrible because it was my fault that I put her in there, but I would rather she die with her friends then without.

We buried her in our Japanese Garden with a lantern marking her place. We will forever remember our sweet little girl.

So sorry for your loss. But I would have put her on Corid right away. Like ASAP... it really can make a difference between life and death. I had 2 chicks that had the same symptoms and didn’t think were going to make it. They came thru after 3 days of the Corid treatment. Even though they didn’t have the bloody poops, I felt Corid was the way to go. You might stock some on hand just in case you experience this again. Also I would avoid stressing them by taking them in public situations. Just some things to think about. I know we all want to show off those adorable baby chicks.

Unfortunately we all tend to learn from mistakes. Lord knows, I have caused the death of a few from decisions at the time I thought were prudent but were instead the worst decisions I could have made. It wrecks you with guilt and grief! Again so sorry for your loss. She was precious and in her short life was obviously very much loved.
