Lethargic for 2 days/diarrhea

I started her on antibiotic flagyl Saturday night; 250 mg. I also got some of the Kaytee baby chick food and mixed the dose with the food and tube fed. Today she started to eat regular food and drink water. Her poop is more solid. I can't thank everyone on this forum enough for all the helpful advice. I learned so much about caring for a sick chicken. How long should I give the flagyl?

Flagyl is five days. Glad she is better.

About all coccidiostats are given for 5 days. Usually in water.

Flagyl is an *antibiotic* , not a coccidiostat and it's given orally for 5 days, *not* in water!

Amprolium is given 3-7 days at .012% or .024% days depending what you believe. I give it for 5-7. Sulmet is given for 2 days a full strength, then 4 days at 1/2 strength.

Amprolium:
FDA recommendations:
http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/animaldrugsatfda/details.cfm?dn=013-149
"Chickens
Indications: For the treatment of coccidiosis.
Amount: Administer at the 0.012 percent level in drinking water as soon as coccidiosis is diagnosed and continue for 3 to 5 days (in severe outbreaks, give amprolium at the 0.024 percent level); continue with 0.006 percent amprolium-medicated water for an additional 1 to 2 weeks."

And this link has these instructions:
http://www.drugs.com/vet/amprol-9-6-solution-can.html
"Poultry - as Soon As Caecal Coccidiosis Is Diagnosed, Give 0.024% Amprolium In The Drinking Water For 5 To 7 Days. Continue The Treatment With 0.006% Amprolium Medicated Water For An Additional One To Two Weeks. No Other Source Of Drinking Water Should Be Available To The Birds During This Time."

Sulmet:

Coccidiosis (in chickens and turkeys): Medicate as above for 2 days, then reduce amount of Sulmet Drinking Water Solution to one-half above for 4 additional days.

Okay, I wasn't even talking about that! Most of them are put in water.
You're the one that quoted the Flagyl post saying with comments about coccidiostats. As for coccidiostats, yes, we all know that they are usually mixed in water. Antibiotics work best when given orally.

I actually put her back out with the other chickens but ended up bringing her back in the afternoon. She was still kinda lethargic but no more diarrhea. She is eating a little but not enough. I fed her the Kaytee baby chick food when I got home from work around 8pm. She is eating kale and picking at some crumble right now. She seems perkier in the cage.

Do you have a vet that you can bring a poop sample to. A small animal vet can do it, its the same general species of parasites they would be looking for and for $20 or less, you would definitely know whether or not her problem is a parasite.
