Let's have a "crazy" neighbor contest!!

My bad neighbor story would definitely win this one, but I would whittle my fingertips away trying to type all of the s*** they have done to us and put us through. Anyone out there who has great neighbors and real peace in your lives, CHERISH it and know how blessed you are, because a bad neighbor situation can really change you and cost you your happiness, inner peace, love of life and take 20 years off of your life. If I have some time in the next few days, I'll try to give you a brief run down of what has happened here...it'll get me all angry and like another poster said, it won't be therapeutic for me...or healthy for that matter, but I'll attempt writing about it one of these days. :|

We have 2 crazy neighbors. The one will mow at least 8' into our yard every week. Her grown children will tear through our yard with her 4 wheeler. etc. Kinda tame overall.

Our other neighbors are just a little weird. They built their house a few weeks after we did. We have been really working on the yard since day one and we are always outside doing something. Well these folks will line up their lawn chairs agains their garage (the back of thier garage faces our land) and watch us work! Apraently we are 'neighbor-TV' to them. They even put in a small blow up pool in the same place so now they relax in thier pool and watch us work. We immediately planted 400' of hedge down the property line and can't wait until it grows 10' high!!!

Our other neighbors own 30 acres but they insist on tearing up everyone elses land with their motorcycles and 4 wheelers. I moved a bunch of downed trees to block the kids and they went crying to mommy. Well later that night they were in our yard trying to find the property pins. My hubby pointed them out clear as day and said to keep their kids off of our land.... I mean come on they have 30 acres

Why tear up someone elses land. Now they ride in their other neighbor's fields.

OK heres my neighbor story. My wife and I have guardianship of her sisters 5 kids. My aunt rented her 4 bedroom to us a couple of years ago(BTW, my family owns the whole block, except for a shop on the west corner). So this mechanic buys the shop which is next door to our house. At first he was OK, we would chit chat from time to time, I even helped him push his rusty old jalopies around every now and then. One day the 2 youngest are out front playing( I was watching them through the glass door). All the sudden here he comes, claiming one of the younguns through a rock and hit his car. I was very apologetic and went to look at the damage. He was looking all over the car for at least a minute and then exclaims OH there it is...a tiny scratch smaller than the eraser on a pencil. I ask him what he thinks reapir will be, and he says at least 2000 dollars. Well I actually laughed, and thats when he started to get mad. I tried to calm the situation, telling him I didn't have that kind of money, but I would see what I could do.(BTW, during our discussion he said at first he thought a car had thrown the rock in passing). So I start talking to the kids...they said yeah they had thrown a rock but it was a while before and in the opposite direction of the car. The next day I did some checking at body shops, describing the damage, car, paint etc. Every shop said 300-800 guesstimating. I then contacted my cousin the lawyer, and she said pay nothing and tell him it should be taken to small claims court. I kinda felt bad about that, still wanting to keep good neighbor status. So I got 800 dollars(the highest estimate) and went to him , telling him I would offer that. He said that he knew we had money coming(I had discussed getting some repair work done to my Chevy by him a month before). I told him that was beside the point, that there was no way I was going to repaint his whole car for a tiny scratch. He said then he would sue, and I told him that he should, thats what my lawyer advised, and she said the burden of proof was on him. He then went ballistic, screaming and cirsing me. I was walking away which is extremely hard for me...and then he said "If I catch your kids outside I'll fix the problem". Well no more holding back!!!! I came at him, he ran in his shop and slammed the door. I thne called the police, and file a report on him. He keeps his distance now and I don't let the kids play in the front anymore.

Postscript to story....about a month ago something blew up in his shop, and smoke was coming out. At first I thought "Good I hope you burn with it you SOB,,,,but then I thought about the scripture about when your enemy is thirsty and you should give them water. So I called the fire dept. He showed up as they were putting out the flames, and they told him our call had probably saved him from total loss.

We are waiting on our home in the country to be built....I CAN'T wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My God, people, I didn't know there were so many wack jobs out there. I have normal neighbors, wierd in completely normal ways (mowing the grass in the dark, issues with kids, normal stuff) I'm the strange one with suburban chickens. Y'all have made me so greatful for the people I have around me. You've also made me laugh. Thanks!!!!

By the way, my mom is one of the nut jobs who trims other peoples shrubs, says strange things, asks if the dog you've been walking for three years is yours, calls the police for parties, etc. Yes, she should be on meds....but you can't make anyone take anything they don't want to. Feel pity for the families of the nuts, they know what you are going through and legally, they can't do anything about it.

I have more than one story, but I'll just give a description of our most recently identified "crazy" neighbor.

But first, my mother warned me that when you first move into a new place, that the first neighbor to introduce themselves to you will usually be the most trouble in the long run. As this wasn't the case at our old house, I had my doubts, but it did turn out to be true in our new place.

Before we moved in, the previous owner warned me about that "crazy lady" that walks down the street. I thought it was odd, as I wasn't sure what she meant.

The "crazy lady" was the first neighbor to come by and introduce herself and her family, but she seemed ok, just a bit chatty. However, after a few encounters, she started inviting me to her basket-selling parties. While I haven't gotten up the nerve to tell her that I think her products are over-priced crud, I have managed to gracefully decline her invitations.

After a lull in her invitations, I got up the nerve to ask her how her business was doing. My interest, of course, was just a friendly inquiry into her life, NOT HER PRODUCTS. Somehow she didn't make the distinction and promptly invited me to a slew of her upcoming sales pitches.

Last night, though, she took it a little too far. She managed to intercept me as I had my hands full of groceries on the way to my house, to invite me to her tool selling party -- you know the tools they make specifically for women.

I'm considering posting a "no solicitations" sign.

LOL Isn't that the truth. I guess they're usually the nosy ones. It was certainly the case with our nut job upstairs. We hadn't even moved our stuff in and she was wanting favours.

I finally read through all the stories (plus all the everyday interuptions when you are trying to read a long thread . . . grrrrr).

Cara, I can't believe what you had to put up with. I guess I'm glad my neighbors have pretty much always respected some degree of personal space.

I guess when one's first neighbor introduces themselves, one should consider them classified as "handle with care."

Thank goodness that I no longer have a crazy neighbor but several years ago I had one that took the cake! She was a real piece of work! The first time I met her we got along swimmingly and we became fast friends. I gave her a spare key to my house and she gave me one to hers in case of emergencies and such. As time went on things became a bit wierd. I worked at a shopping mall in a jewelry store as a diamond consultant back then and had a commute of 70 miles one way every day. I would get home late in the evenings as the mall closed at 9pm and I was bone tired by the time I made the long drive home. I would come home sometimes to find her sitting on my couch in the livingroom (usually with some friend of hers who I had never met) and she would be waiting for me to get home and fix dinner that she somehow thought she and this other person had been invited to! It would be hours before I could get them out of the house and by the time I finally got into bed I felt like I had been hit by a mack truck! She even went so far as to show up in my front yard the morning my hubby and I were leaving to go on vacation with her suitcase in hand and a cooler full of drinks! She just politely invited herself along! NOW THAT"S A CRAZY NEIGHBOR!!!!

So glad things are back to normal now and my new neighbors are great

I have been reading on this site for about 6 months now but just joined after reading these 13 pages of bad neighbors.
I thought when I bought this place it would be great. The neighbors are church going/happy people. But, they forgot the love thy neighbor rule.
It started out with notes being left on my door when they didn't like something. I need to mow more often (she mow es every week and doesn't work). She told me she hated chickens. We live in Arkansas IN THE COUNTY. No restrictions. I was raised with pets/animals. I want animals.
I had ducks, peacocks, chickens, one cat, and horses.
The church lady has a rent house behind us and the renter's dog kept killing the fowl. I told them over and over. I finally called police, purchased a gun, and started shooting the dogs that where coming on my fenced (I am the only person with fence) property that where killing my animals.
Police told the neighbors (renter and church) I had every right and gave them to many warnings. Renters moved and church lady is mad at me.
Church neighbor's kids are bad. Older boy, W, has broke my motorcycle mirrors. I saw him do it and parents did pay for new mirrors. W has thrown rocks at my house, shot arrows at my chickens, left dead snakes in my front door, stole my hammer (parents have not paid for) just to name a few things.
Church lady came to my house one day and stated she wanted my house to be in a subdivision but not hers. She didn't like the new fence I wanted to build or my animals. I told her you have a barn and pond in your front yard and a burn pile for trash (they don't have trash service) in your back. She says "but we are not going to be part of the subdivision."
I tell her "get a lawyer and I'll call mine"
I now have a fenced area (coop/houses) in my fenced backyard for my new chickens I had to buy with locks on the doors to keep out W.
Well, we don't talk much anymore.
