Hi All and for those with new goslings - CONGRATULATIONS.

Barb - so please that you had three eggs progress but read that the 2nd gosling is out but weak. Lots of rest and hopefully the yolk sack will recede more - I did put some additional information of the SGL forum. I think was in answer to new member Jenny. Yoy may find it useful - but best of luck with this baby.

Pleased to hear 3rd egg has pipped at last but seems like they're a bit slow and may need at least 24 hours between external pip and rotation.

Ist gosling looks terrific and perhaps a female Blue SB???

Iain - been bust over wkend but kept an eye on forum from my mobile. Couldn't believe it when I read 2 more grey boys

Never mind you've got 4 splits there and you can choose the very best quality for size and type. With Dewlaps its always good to have a few to choose from for future breeding

Yep, Pete.... I hatched two more boys.... bringing my tally to 5 greys and 0 buffs. But I can't keep any. I already have 4 nice buff ganders (3 yearlings) and 4 yearling grey ganders. All I want/need is a nice buff girl (or two) for the yearling gander in my avatar picture.

I just pipped the last two eggs (African and dewlap) since I heard faint clicking in bator. Shockingly they are both alive.... and guess what.... the dewlap is a buff!!! They did not lose enough moisture, so they are sticky and I am thinking with all the opening/closing of bator it dried enough to turn to rubber cement. Unfortunately, I have to go to work so hubby will have to try to assist them out in my absence. No pressure for him.

RuRu, hope you gosling makes it,

I got a Sheltand girl hatched, she popped out pretty fast, I did check the other 4 eggs, tapped and listened , didn't hear anything. They are the only ones left in the hatcher, but only on day 30, so will leave them in for a couple more days. Fertility is only about 30% on the ones I opened, but they are all less than a year old, but one male and I only notice him breeding once. I just tossed 6 eggs in group 3 in incubator as infertile.... I have 6 more in group 4

It would be so nice after all those males to finally get a Buff female - talk about the golden goose!!! Of course we're hoping for the opposite result and that we hatch Buff ganders

Will keep hoping the Buff makes it out OK

Its so hard having to leave them at a critical phase though I do try to set the eggs so I know we're around for the hatching.

I have 3 more from my best pairing due soon. 2 are internally pipped but one has not yet drawn down though lost 14.5% weight which should be OK for Day 28

This year our Dewlaps are not having their best season with poor fertility from some pairs but we've had a long cold Winter which caused a delay to the breeding season.

Pete I thought the one gosling up and around from Hanna Grey SB and Nikki Lavender gander was a Blue as well. But if it is a female WOW!!!! I will be over the moon please to have my very first Blue SB female..

Thank you everyone about my little Grey SB gosling is still in the incubator and the egg sack is going in more. The baby is still alive and kicking the feet more. But this must have been a rough hatch for this gosling. I have had to help it along. But just leaving the baby alone in the incubator to gain strength.. I sure hope baby makes it. Good sign still alive today.
The other baby I had to take off the one piece of egg. Boy Gloria's eggs are thick. Maybe that is what is wearing these goslings out so much. This one is talking to me when it hears my voice. The other baby did not do much peeping. So this day is going to seem like forever for me.....

I brought in some tender small dandoline greens for the Blue SB and it took a piece from me and ate it right down. So put the remainder on the towel and left. Baby went peeping it's little butt off wanting me back.
I am tired because I kept getting up last night to check on the goslings in the bator.

Sorry to hear you're tired Barb but so worth it when you get results

If the yolk sack is still withdrawing on the weaker gosling then that's great and my only concern would be to maintain hydration as soon as its strong enough.

Tell me the patterns of the ?Blue gosling's parents please;

Hanna - Grey Saddleback???

Nikki - Solid Lavender??? Also if he is solid has he fathered SBs before?

Between the hard hatched grey boy yesterday and the two eggs still trying to hatch out, I decided to be nice and stay home, taking the pressure off of hubby. The buff girl is weak and has a long way to go, but I'm hopeful. If she makes it, she truly will be the golden goose.

Ruru, I'm right there with you!
