Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

I set all 5 eggs together. The African egg looks to be a little further along and doing ok and the buff baby is starting to gain strength. I have not touched them since I pipped shells 4.5 hours ago and focusing on keeping it warm and moist in hatcher.

I will try to offer water to the new hatchling. I assume it is ok to offer dandelion water to all the new hatchlings?

Yep as soon as they're ready. Also when they're ready to nibble we offer finely chopped dandelion, lettuce (for a short while) and grass together with their waterfowl starter crumbs.

Dandelion is a fantastic food in spring with increased nutritional value and high calcium and low phosphorus ratios. Together with their known potential to be a diruretic and high in potassium they're natures bounty in spring.

We pick sack loads!!!! Our tortoises go mad for them and I'll swear it makes us successful in breeding them

I just offered the new trio water and after watching the other two, the fluid baby drank a few mouthfuls. There is fluid coming out of his nares, which I see as a good sign. All three are looking to nibble on something. I have a large dandelion patch growing in my backyard, so it is plentiful. I will trying offering that now.

My little African enjoyed the dandelion, but the fluid boy only took another sip of water. He did, however, take a huge normal looking poop and I see that as another positive sign.

It takes time for the systems to deal with this and rest is the order of the day. With the additional fluid in their system its an increased load for their heart and organs to deal with but usually resolves over the first 36 hours.

I have one duck egg internally pipped and one not far behind. I can see shadowing and hear clicking. They are due thursday, its a little early isnt it? The other 10 look to be still on
the right schedule. It is possible that the first two could have been set on since they werent my eggs. I got them from a friend. Its only day 25 for them. I noticed the air cell dipping last night. With the time it takes to internally pip and then externally pip i may have two ducklings by wednesday. Cant wait to see my duckies.

pete - Right now I'm feeding them 18% protein chick starter and adding about a teaspoon of the yeast per quart of feed. It's nice and warm where I am(80-90f), so they free range and graze all day long. They're about 3 weeks old right now, and one of them honked at me this morning!

It was so cute, the gosling looked VERY shocked, like he couldn't figure out what was going on.

Thanks for the help!

These are the 2 surviving sebbies that I hatched out 2 weeks ago. The smaller one is the distressed hatch gosling and remains smaller than the other although both are growing like weeds. Can you tell the sex on sebbies as babies or are they mysteries until they're almost full grown like my american buff geese? I think both are saddlebacks but the smaller one is much more yelllow with a darker saddle. Should i be expecting it to catch up to the larger one and does anybody have a guess as to male or female? Also, my buffs are setting on a clutch whiich is due to hatch this week. Is it possible that the pair might include these two in w their brood so they can grow up as geese instead of people? Thanks for your input. Lori
