Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

I just put 18 eggs in the incubator today! Following Pete's "sticky" incubation guide, I am really really excited to see if we have fertile eggs!

Congrats!! What kind?

Our 5 eggs are in lockdown now so we shall see what happens in a few days....I sure hope I get goslings this year.

Thanks for the info. Wish my American Buffs were nesting so I could just tuck some of the sebie eggs in w/ theirs
Alas, this is their first mated year and they're still figuring out the nest building part. So glad that you are all so willing to deal with stupid questions from newbies.

No worries on the questions. I was a newbie last year and went through a ton of eggs during the learning curve, but also hatched 40 ducklings and goslings.

So my goose has decided that she wants to hatch her eggs--but by sitting nights and mornings only. She donated feathers to her nest, goes in early to sit on it, even has "broody poo", but then around 11 or 12 in the morning she comes off it and spends the day with her friends grazing and trying to sneak into the garage. I really don't know what to do with her. Every time I make up my mind to take away her eggs or at least thin down the collection, she does something, (like sits on themt extra long) to convince me she's serious.
So I'm kinda half-in, but not really.

Okay I had to go and check to make sure I had just read your post on the duck thread and I had.

So my suggestion is bring her into the kitchen along with your ducks. lol, no just kidding but when they first start to get the broody bug they will do just what your goose is doing, sit at night and some during the day until they feel they have enough to sit on and they fill they are ready, so don't give up on her, my goose is sitting at night now but hasn't comitted yet either so I will let her get a few eggs ahead then take the oldest one, I have them marked to keep up with whats what.

Wonderful Idea!! as long as she kept her head down, she just might fit in the same cage! oh, and I'd have to bring gander in too so he didn't go crazy looking for her.

It's good to know this is normal behavior. maybe I should just stop worrying so much.

Ok, here are my goose eggs at day 16:
Egg #1: 5.4 oz
Egg #2: 5.1 oz
Egg #3: 5.7 oz
Egg #4: 6.0 oz

Does this sound ok for geese?
I only weigh in grams so I'm not sure on the sizes. They need to lose 13% from fresh layed before lockdown (appox day 27) and 16 % at hatch average.
