Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

Zooweemama you and i will have goslings around the same day
NO way!! Yay! I CAN play! This is my first ever hatch in a bator of ANYThing. A new to me hovabator. Trying not to stress. I have 6 Brown African eggs in there and 12 of my own barnyard mix duck eggs. I am hatching them only because I want to learn how to properly candle, need to test the bator and in case only 1 gosling hatches- it can have a buddy. I candled today and it was amazing to see veins!!

8geese, not sure... but probably 4-5 per egg?

Congrats and welcome to everyone joining in with newly set eggs. I have my dewlap girls' eggs only newly set myself.

In the meantime, I hear tapping sounds from my bator with my first African girls' eggs.

My first 6 brown chinese has been in about 7 days now. Then yesterday i added 3 more with 19 chicken eggs. The chicks will be
hatching with the first 6. The other 3 wil be a week later. If everything goes well i should have my hands full with babies. This is only my second time/year trying goose eggs and ive lost count for hatching chicks.

Im stressing more over this batch then i did with the first 14 eggs i had last year. I think its because ive been reading all the horror stories about goslings hatching with problems. Plus im attached to my new pair i bought a few weeks ago, the chinese. I love both pairs but the chinese are so much different than my toulouse, they are like little feathered comedians.

zooweema, did you get eggs from Jen?
No. If this hatch is a bust- I am though. I have already contacted her. I will be getting some bantam BLRW chicken eggs though for sure! I already have a pair of her bantams BLRW chickens and we simply adore them. Shoot I might eventually getting some goose eggs anyway. This hatch is a big test for me. I didn't want to buy eggs from her and then slay them in the bator. I would be horrified. I figured...test on my own eggs first. So I can learn. :D

I think the Africans are similar. A lot of personality (imho) and really fun to watch. Loud but so are the ducks...and my family lol! Good thing we live in the country. I hear other peoples roosters crowing and lambs baaing alllllll day long. I think they can handle some goose honks. :p

They are loud for sure. I live in the country too but still have neighbors that complained about my bottle goats crying. Even though i could not hear them while standing outside the barn and having hubby tell me when they were crying. So with that complaint i went on a mission to get the most obnoxious sounding animals i could find, im not a mean person but i will not tolerate someone that just moved to the country from the city and trys tell me what i can and cannot raise on my farm that has been an active farm for my family for over 100 yrs. So i got geese lmbo next will be a donkey. Then some peacocks i love them anyways but their loud cries is a plus. Hehe

My eggs (ok, the ones my goose is sitting on) are the same age! They are Dewlap ToulousexShetland.

haha!! We share a property with my mil, though who can only half hear me at times...somehow she can hear highway noise and the birds? LOL I would love to have a couple guinea hens. Just for fun. But she gets that look in her eyes if I mention guineas or peacocks/peahens. Maybe one day. :D She doesn't mind the roosters and geese so I think we're getting somewhere. haha!
