Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

I am new to geese, and I am a nervous wreck. I got excited when I saw some hatching eggs for sale, and instead of being sensible, I bought every single one of them. 23 Chinese Swan Goose eggs.

I have never hatched a goose, so I need this thread!

... Have you read Pete55's guide yet?

J that is just awesome that you set your first 5 Buff eggs!!! I can hardly wait until one day I have Buff sebastopols and hatch my owno ut. But right now that is not going to happen because I lost my smooth breasted girl as all on here know. I was so excited about having her and my dreams went bye bye when she got electricuted by chewing on the wire of the heated bucket.

I will be excited to see your buff colored goslings hoping that you get them!!!
Hi - so sorry for your loss. Was your bucket plugged into a GFCI receptacle? -my electrician husband asked me to ask

My husband had put the bucket inside of a dish pan to catch the water and the geese got water inside of the dish pan and it hit the heating element and my baby girl blew her feet straight back and had her mouth on the wire when I found her. So I told my husband DO NOT ever do that again. Put the buckets up on something like palets no more in ANYTHING.
I was so upset with him it wasn't even funny............ That is why she got electricuted.

Irish, I recommend candling eggs with fat end up and drawing a pencil line to mark air cell. It will be easier to compare moisture loss that way.

The first gosling of the season finally hatched last night! It is still working on drying off and has a bunch of gook from the egg lacquered on its poor head (I'll clean those off a little at a time), but is doing good! It is from the eggs of the goose in my avatar. From the colors on the down patterns, it looks like it will have decent markings.

The second egg I put in with this one internally pipped in the early AM today. So, if all goes well, I will have a second gosling by the end of the weekend. I have a couple more eggs that should be getting close: I have to go candle those and do their cool and mist sequence in a few minutes.
