I have seen backwards babies with both ducks an geese, but I do not know why waterfowl get positioned backwards. It is not that uncommon. Last year, I did not have my own breeding stock, so all my eggs were shipped. I saw wonky cells, blown aircells, and babies positioned wrong. If they pipped, they would usually make it, often without help.
Speaking of pipping... my solo gosling is starting day 29 and has not internally pipped. His aircell dipped dramatically in the past week like he turned into the right position, and was rocking away last night like he was trying to internally pip... but no sign of pip this morning. I'm getting a little concerned the gosling may not hatch.
On the bright side, I have 3 more eggs on day 23.... and my #1 prized grey dewlap's first egg is already veining at the start of day 5!

At first I had no idea what happened but after carefully looking at everything, I now know that I didn't have the eggs placed correctly in the incubator and I set the incubator top down on an egg and it slightly cracked it. I am so upset !!!!!!
