Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

These guys are so sweet! I know the red light makes things look funny but they love snuggling with their stuffed rabbit. That's how I found them sleeping last night.

What is the latest that a young goose will start laying this season? I have a 9 month old, supposedly production toulouse goose, that hasnt even acted like she is interested in laying. I have read that some people have geese laying at 7 mos old. Does she still have a chance to lay this year or will she wait until next year?

Also my 6 brown chinese eggs in the 'bator are looking good. Its still early but crossing fingers for 6 fluff balls

8geese, I think she may still lay eggs this year. My Africans started laying in middle of February, but my dewlaps only started 2.5 weeks ago. The last ones to start laying began only a week ago. While most were quite obvious that they were looking for a place to build a nest and showing a lot of interest in mating, some showed very little signs of going into laying mode.

Best of luck with your eggs.

Thanks lain. I was starting to think i had them penned and seperated for nothing. Or that i had made a mistake and had two ganders lol but i dont think shes a gander lol unless shes cross dressing cause all her actions say goose. Ill give her a little more time

looks like 5-7 but it's packing downa nd melting some as it continues to snow, lol drifting alot here also. I'm glad it looks like 50's next weekend.
My hubby can't be out in this stuff but we plan ahead and have feeders that will hold 2 days worth of food and heated water buckets, So all I really have to worry about is collecting eggs, making sure the rabbits water doesn't freeze and general make sure everyone is ok. I have found some flaws with our set up this winter so before daughter (she's on a trip this week) moves this fall we will do some changes.

I still have two girls that haven't started yet. But winter wont release it's hold on us. I'm hoping they start in the next 2 weeks.

It appears to make a more of a difference if the temperatures change alot instead of staying steady as some way north of me have geese laying.

My Embdens (first ever goose hatch) should be hatching this Wednesday (or so). Got the hatching incubator all set up for them. We only have two incubators, so they are sharing with a dozen Khaki Campbells and two dozen chicken eggs, all of which are scheduled to hatch around Wednesday. Should make for an interesting week!

I agree...the babies are adorable and the adults are a LOT more docile than other ratites. Ostriches can be extremely dangerous and yes...can KILL you!

Emus can also kill you - my mum got mauled a few years back - had bits off her everywhere. Thankfully she managed to get out of the area where the emu was or it might have been a lot worse as she was on her own.
