Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

How long does it take for them to mature? Ive been thinking of getting some. I have enough acreage for a few.

I don't know I just hatched them ~

Yesterday the goslings started hatching out of the 9 eggs we have 8 goslings. It took all day yesterday for them to hatch. I was not feeling very well so was laying down inbetween checking the goslings as they hatched. Will get pictures later today after dialysis.

RiverGoddess, What kind of chick is that really? It's so beautiful!

Yes an EMU chick, I hatched 3 this year! UGH ! 52+ days of incubation, and NO CANDLING

I didn't light any incense, chant any mantras or turn them all toward the birthplace off all poultry. I just treated them like my chicken eggs. I put them in a low-end still air tabletop incubator, refilled the water when it was getting low, and turned them by hand every morning and every evening.

My Eggs Rock to Willie Nelson & Bob Dylan ! Seems to increase my hatches & I get more girls

Been watching some people on here saying that they hatch chicks with their goslings so i decided to add some with my 6 goose eggs. Plus 3 more goose eggs. So now i have 9 goose eggs in the 'bator with 19 chicken eggs. Here goes the first attempt at multi species hatching together. Crossing fingers cause im not the luckiest when trying something new.

I hatch everything together Chukars, Quail, Ducks, Goslings, Chickens, Rabbits, n Emu's !

I HAVE GOSLINGS! Two of four hatched! And they tried to bite my nose!

Some advice please. We have 6 embdens in lock down, two began to break the outer shell 12 hours ago and made about 3/4 pf an inch of a hole. This morning UK time there seemed liitte other activity and it appeared that one may of been stuck, it's beak tip out but no movement. Rightly or wrongly have lifted the lid of incubator and both chicks seem motionless. The membrane appeared to be very dry around beak, although no blood. On one I've peeled back membrane so nostril is clear, but no movement or noise. .

How long do the goslings rest for, I fear that they may have died in shell and what would be a typical time for an Gosling to chip round the egg. I can hear cheeping from other eggs. Humidity is at 75% although the recommmended by Brinsea is 65%. I have a Brinsea 20. Any advice appreciated Paul T a concerned novice.

they take as long as 3 full days from internal pip to finally hatching. 24 hours or more from external pip to hatching. Geese are very SLOW going and rest often after making the big milestones in hatching

They usually take a while after pipping but no movement or noise isn't good. Let us know how they do and good luck with the rest!

ive never incubated goose eggs and have a bunch here ready to set... so would like some pointers please....
i have a few questions...

do i need to wash the eggs first? (they are pretty dirty with dried on mud/muck)
do they have to lie on their side in the incubator or can i stand them up on one end? (then i could fit more in...) i'm using an octogan 20 eco, and an octogan 20 older model...
do they take 28 or 35 days? im finding conflicting 'times', when would i know to stop turning them?
do i need to spray them with water???
ive also read about 'cooling off' times for goose eggs (15mins per day ?)

can i put goose eggs in an incubator with Turkey eggs?

thanks in advance

Can anyone help with these questions?

Last night as I was looking at the eggs, I remembered that I had put wax on the egg that I cracked, so I wasn't sure if the baby would be able to break through the wax, so I picked up the egg to pick off the wax and I the egg moved and I heard pipping !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was soooooooo excited !!!!!!! I have a baby inside. I'm hoping that it makes it out ok. I misted the eggs again. The egg has a nice crack in it, so the baby shouldn't have any problems getting out. I'm crossing my fingers. :fl

ETA: I noticed that the membrane was a little dry. Will the baby still be ok or do I need to moisten the membrane? WIll the dry membrane have any effect on the baby getting out of the egg? :idunno

I have goose house made out of wafer board like that , and even with the paint I put on it, the buggers peeled some of the wafer off, hopefully didn't eat it, but I will never be sure.... You may have to put some coating or wire on it so they don't start picking at it. I also believer they use formaldyhyde in the glue on those so .....it may be mildly or so toxic???? you may want to research this.

i have a few questions...

do i need to wash the eggs first? (they are pretty dirty with dried on mud/muck) I used a damp paper towel and get most of the grim off.. NO scrubbing... some use a soft brush.
do they have to lie on their side in the incubator or can i stand them up on one end? (then i could fit more in...) i'm using an octogan 20 eco, and an octogan 20 older model... They can not be on end if you want good results
