Thanks for the condolences. Actually, it is my yearling Africans that I am having problems with, not my dewlaps. The only two dewlap girls that I am setting eggs from are 2yo and started laying later in the season. So far, they are showing much stronger development than my early season African eggs and hopefully they will hatch better too. My first dewlap egg is on day 21 today. I will definitely keep it closer to 20% and monitor air cell space/dip closely. Oddly, my duck eggs have been hatching strong in the same conditions.

I too am continuing to collect 2-4 eggs daily, but it is tapering off fast. I have 3 geese that are broody now, each sitting on 4-8 eggs each. Maybe they can hatch babies better than my cheapo styro bator.

I have a technical question --- how do you decrease your humidity to 20%?? Sorry you are having problems with your Africans - hope the ones you are hatching will do well!

Nyssa, thanks. At least my ducklings are hatching well today, which helps. I reduce water and open air vents to lower humidity.

So, 5 of my Hookbill duck eggs in hatcher have hatched , I have 8 others in there (silky ducks mostly)....and my 2 goose eggs. One African, one Shetland out of like 15, culled others not fertile (geese are last years hatch, one male is 2). So I am using my 2nd hovabator as a hatcher. Now there is some poo falling into bottom . I may have up to 5 days more of hatching? Should I do anything about the poo ; like quickly clean the the incubator out ? I could move the eggs next door in the other incubator quickly to clean.? Or leave them be. (I remove babies and shells as quick as I could). I have more goose eggs in other incubator and a few under my tuft. buff goose (not hers) who wanted to set.

I would leave until completion of your next hatch as it's only 5 days away. The mess tends to be sterile egg contents anyway.

Then you can thoroughly clean.
