Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

Congrats to everyone.

Good looking pics everyone.

A few eggs have zipped but I'm not sure about many of them because I am smelling a rotten smell. I think they are done.

Pete -- absolutely STUNNING birds and photography!! I need me a big girl camera now.

This may be off topic, but here is a pic of the Canadians that took up residence at our pond. They wouldn't let me get quite as close as yours photos but dang those goslings are cute just the same!

just beautiful

Thanks everybody for the comments.

The picture of the Canadians with their family is lovely. I've just got a new zoom lens so hoping to get much better pics of wild birds myself this year.

Iain - I've got another 9 fertile eggs from the pair producing Buffs but she hasn't laid for 5 days now so think she's finished or taking a break.

Looks like the other Buff is only just starting!

Yesterday night I was candling when I noticed that two of my duck eggs had internally pipped. I pulled them out and put them with the chicks that were hatching that day and thought nothing more about it. Well, this morning I went to check them, and what did I find? A newly hatched baby chicken! It completely threw me, because I could have sworn those eggs were duck. Oh well, at least they have friends!

Love the pic!!!! I have been waiting to see that in my pasture, but today I found the goose hanging out with her gander, but no babies. Hope she was just taking a rest break from her nest and something bad didn't happen.

Are the babies better off in a brooder with a solid bottom or a wire bottom, what is the ideal brooding temp,
I'm more nervous about these sebastapol than I was my daughter.
I think a solid bottom with an old towel is the best for brooding babies. I don't know the temp, as I gauge it on how they are acting.... probably somewhere in low to mid 90s for the first 1-2 of days, then a gradual decrease to 70s over the next few days.

Thanks everybody for the comments.

How many eggs has she laid? I have some dewlaps that started in early March and others less than two weeks ago. Some laid 12 eggs and went broody and others have laid 20+ eggs without taking any break. I would have expected more consistency. Is it typical for them to be scattered about like that?

Congrats!

You guys take some beautiful pics! Love them. I wish I had a better camera. I use my iPhone, which does well for a camera phone, but I'm not going to win any photo contests with it, that's for sure!

When brooding, I really like to start out with my old cotton cloth diapers. Then I start using towels when they need more space, and finally, I use wood shavings or move them out on grass if its warm enough.

Okay, I didn't hatch these, but I can't resist sharing. These are my American Blue and Lav pairs I got from Holderread in the mail today. I can't wait to see how they turn out!

So I finally got some pics of my latest hatch. Sold two the first day, but here are the ones that are left. You may recall that I bought two types of eggs - half were purebred Toulouse, and the other half are an Embden/Chinese mix. But they arrived unmarked, just a box of eggs. I have separated the goslings out (into two batches) by beak color and feather color and taken pics. I'm gonna assume that the darker ones are the Toulouse, but I really don't know. Also, I have a buyer for some of them lined up, but he wants to know sex. I have no clue. Can someone help? I've numbered the lighter goslings for aid in reference. :) But the darker ones look pretty much the same to me. Thanks in advance!

Daisy

The dark one in the bottom left corner decided to dip his/her head in the water when I was getting them together for the pic. Maybe I should call it "Rufio"?
