Well Yay for a few kgCongrats to everyone.
Good looking pics everyone.
A few eggs have zipped but I'm not sure about many of them because I am smelling a rotten smell. I think they are done.![]()

Yesterday night I was candling when I noticed that two of my duck eggs had internally pipped. I pulled them out and put them with the chicks that were hatching that day and thought nothing more about it. Well, this morning I went to check them, and what did I find? A newly hatched baby chicken! It completely threw me, because I could have sworn those eggs were duck. Oh well, at least they have friends!![]()
I think a solid bottom with an old towel is the best for brooding babies. I don't know the temp, as I gauge it on how they are acting.... probably somewhere in low to mid 90s for the first 1-2 of days, then a gradual decrease to 70s over the next few days. Are the babies better off in a brooder with a solid bottom or a wire bottom, what is the ideal brooding temp,
I'm more nervous about these sebastapol than I was my daughter.
Thanks everybody for the comments.
The picture of the Canadians with their family is lovely. I've just got a new zoom lens so hoping to get much better pics of wild birds myself this year.
Iain - I've got another 9 fertile eggs from the pair producing Buffs but she hasn't laid for 5 days now so think she's finished or taking a break.
Looks like the other Buff is only just starting!

So I'm not a murderer after all. Three of the 6 eggs have hatched and 1 is zipping. I'm relieved that I didn't kill them.
