Let's plan a Quail egg hatch... set 'em Sept. 1, hatch 'em Sept 17-19+

I'm going into the last minute cage building business as well.

I thought at least half my eggs were fertile, 1/2 questionable since those girls are not favored and I haven't seen them being mated at all. WRONG!

All fertile and by random check all my eggs have something going on in them. Cool and yet now I have to figure out where to put them!

Depending on what breed you have, I would say 1 sq. ft. per bird, so that would be 24 birds in the pen you're thinking of. Most people I've spoken to on here tend to have more space for bobs

Coturnix quail, I have enough psych issues without psycho birds

looking good ya'll. keep it up. the Quail world has never known such teamwork.
appreciate ya.

btw, swheat, you still up for that other project? I wanna put the largest brown roo I have from Bill, with the larger, white hens and then try to get the offspring back to solid white, "not pied". These will also be the bigger egg layers that I have. sound challenging? should take 3-4 generations?

we can initiate the project together. I will send ya a weeks worth of eggs and then set mine same time when you get yours to set 4-5 days later. that way they hatch the same time, grow out same time, etc.

holler. TD

So far I have 10 baby buttons hatched...of course they are 2 days early. Hopefully most of the other eggs will hatch so I can justify taking them to Louisville.

I'm so excited. We've got 40 coturnix set to hatch on the 11th and 20 A&M's set to hatch on the 17th. This will be my first major hatch

. We even built a still air cooler bator last night to serve as a lockdown bator that way we don't have to cut the power to the auto turner for the other eggs. I'll try to get pics posted soon. It was a really fun project.

half way point yay! now to get cracking on a real brooder, i don't think 30+ chicks will fit in my fax brooder :S

Ok so mabye they'll be a little early lol. We have 21 pips so far out of 40 coturnix eggs that were set to hatch on the 11th. Maybe all the hot weather when they were shipped started the process. It's going to be a sleepless night.

Our new cooler bator. This was so much fun to make. My son had a blast helping drill the holes and glue in the light sockets. He can't wait to put the eggs in as soon as we get it temping right.

speaking of future projects lol... I think i'm gonna need to make a nice big picture window version, I have a niece who i can already tell will be glued to the thing like TV, heck I'm already there and i've been hatching things for a long time, it just never gets old! the thing i really like about quail is they hatch so uniformally!
