Let's plan a Quail egg hatch... set 'em Sept. 1, hatch 'em Sept 17-19+

All this talk of soap is making me feel....bubbly! Any of you soap maker gals want to swap a few bars of soap for something knit or crochet? Or perhaps a lovely little cat lover's gift set of wheatgrass and catnip in cute glass jars? I LOVE soaps!

.....hmm... trying to think how this will relate to quail.

OH I HAVE IT! I'm going to need a nice scrubadub after building my quail palace and a fragrant soap will do the trick....

Sure, love your etsy shop, send me a note on there (website link) and we'll swap there so it counts as a sale/feedback for you.

Back to our reguarly scheduled quailness....

my 5 day old quails are wing feathering today, it's cute and clumsy in 1 brooder.

I have decided to try and collect eggs for up to 14 days before setting, I have 3 Quail hens I want to incubate as many eggs as possible. I will keep them in a cooler, like Dr. _Randall has experimented with.

There is a similar case study...My virtual buddy, Delmar, set eggs from his other C-type of Galliformes Phasianidae birds, collected for 15 days and had great success... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=475734&p=1

I
will date the eggs, weigh them when laid, weigh them again when set, to see if any mass was lost over the 14 days. sound like a good experiment?

It does sound like good exercise for the lab coat. I'd be interested in the weight lost. I'v been use'n the ice and cooler deal of Randalls for several weeks now. Seems to work well... All of the last 3 request for eggs have been givin the "cooler" treatment... Bill

Good thread link, Tractor. I subscribe to those kind that has good testimonies. (I sometimes have to go re-read such to get the confidence to do things like that).

Good luck to you and Bill on the test project. I've commited to a 7-day program, and am having real good luck.........matter of fact, running out of living quarters.

You guys have me laughing!

Saddina - I'll message you over on Etsy. NICE SHOP!!!

I've been thinking....I'm not going to hatch another round of chicken eggs after this one (my first chicks are in the brooder!) so I can have everything ready for my future quail. I want it to be PERFECT!

TD- As far as the quail egg feed sack - I'll have to give you the friends and family discount!!

This is a TD test, Im just a spectator of his experiment. My curiosity is the weight loss of the egg during the holding time. I'v a hypothesis that the eggs weigh loss will be directly related to the humidity in the holding cooler. But thats just a guess. we'll see.....

Its my intention to set 3 dozen Italians for the hatch-a-long...Alex is going send me some just before the set date. I have been want'n some purdy yellow ones that dont have to be big or boneless.... those wont be for eat'n as much as my "just cuz I like'm" birds... Bill
