Hi guys, I have 8 chicks who are 4 weeks old today. They are light Sussex X (breeder says pure but I'm not at all convinced) 2 are Orpington X Sussex, she only told me she had the Orpington hen in there when they hatched and I questioned her, hence my distrust.

Any who that's all irrelevant, lets play :)

Pullet, curious about the black legs. What throws that?

Based on wattles could be rooster but not sure

Chick 8

Again based on wattles I think rooster,

That would give me 50/50 :) they change so much each week, will update with new photos as they age, I welcome all thoughts for or against my uneducated opinions please

The "black" legs look green to me. Though I don't see how you could get either color from a Sussex X Orpington since both have white legs. As for sexes I would agree.

Thankyou for your reply. I think it's the photo making them look green, they are probably more grey than black, this is the first time I've actually noticed it so I went back through my photos and its legs were the same as the others to start, the first photo I can see a change is a week ago, makes it even more confusing!!

Not quite day old, don't know which is which but it's one of the darker cream ones and both have the same colour legs

Another pic from today,

It's times like these that remind me how little I know despite all I've learned!!

These are the pictures of the parents she sent when I questioned her

Supposed mother.

I won't be breeding or showing so it's no problem to me but I like to know what breeds I've got, plus when I rehome the excess I'll need to know!

As I mentioned on the Aussie Thread .. I will play, but my skill set is such that even I would not make any judgement calls on my guesses

I agree with you on Chick #1 .. rooster.

Again, I agree with you on Chick #2 .. I am thinking pullet but not positive.

#3 my guess is rooster.

Yeah, probably pullet on #4 but not 100% convinced. Same with #5.

#6 my guess is pullet.

#7 I am going to go out on a limb and even with the wattles, going with pullet.

#8 I am swaying towards rooster.

I agree with these guesses.

Thanks guys :) would be great if more were pullets, I will find a home for them all but it's much harder with the boys,
