Let's Play The Oregon Trail (Picture heavy)

I seem to remember more similarities - that said, I've only seen some videos. The gameplay could be totally different for all I know, but what I saw looks remarkably similar.

The Megaman games are more Mario style than dungeon crawler Metroid style, to be honest. As the series gets more installments, the differences start disappearing.

I've never really thought of Metroid as a dungeon crawl. I get the dungeon part, but it seems like it's more walk straight through the dungeon and kill anything that moves with all kinds of ludicrously powerful beam guns, rather than a "crawl."

Yeah, though, now that I look at it, even plot-wise the Metroid series is a LOT darker and more serious, which I like.

True, it is more like that.

Exactly! The Megaman series suffers(?) from a lighter plot, although the later installments like the X series have caused it to become rather serious. Admittedly, it's still hard to take their serious plots seriously for a plethora of small reasons.

Megaman is a series of ongoing video games created by Capcom. It is a platformer style game with an emphasis on different weapon types and shooting.

Megaman himself is a blue robot created by Dr. Light in the year 200X to battle the evil Dr. Wily. He was originally designed to be a cleaning robot with his sister Roll, but Dr. Light modified him with an arm cannon.

Okay!

I now have a slight idea about what you are talking about.

Yeah, I dunno why, I just like darker plots. I guess I'm on the cynical end of the Sliding Scale of Idealism vs Cynicism, so dark plots seem more interesting.

M-hm, darker plots are indeed fun! But on the Sliding Scale, I will admit I'm more on the Idealistic side.
