sillyoversilkies, depending upon where those pieces not meeting up are located, you may not want to close them. You need a lot of ventilation. You can pick up a roof vent at Lowes/HomeDepot to cover the peak. Other than that, take a slow walk thru the stores to see what is available to cover the areas you feel need to be covered. You can always just used a board and batten method to put 1x3 or 1x4 wood on the exterior to cover slits and corners and out line openings.

Here is our ugly coop. It is for our Guineas. I have posted these pics before on another "ugly" thread a while back. This was our attempt to recycle and reuse. That is our old ice house, for fishing in the winter. There are 3 holes cut in the bottom and a door on each end. We covered up the holes and cut in a pop door. The run is just a dog kennel we don't need for our dog anymore. The straw bale was placed there to keep the wind from tipping the whole thing over and blowing to the neighbors house 3 miles away! In case you have never been to Montana the wind really blows out here on the prairie!!

New to BackYard Chickens Forum and trying to figure out how to upload a pic of my UGLY, rustic, homemade coop. Since I can't find a way to get the pix up let me say that I gathered materials for weeks for this coop. The first one that the babies grew up in was haphazard, from repurposed wood from the boxsprings of a queen bed and some chicken wire netting I had from gardening, a few bricks to hold up a perch... UGLY. Redneck.

The current home is made of alot of gathered wood from this and that. Wooden pallets make up the "enclosed" part of their home, where the nests are. 3 for sides and 1 over the top. I've cut out a portion of one side for them the go between the nesting and the "yard"; added short bits of wood to close up most of the spaces on the pallets, and used more repurposed wood from a tall desk/cupboard thing I found in the trash where the chickenwire door is for getting the eggs and cleaning that section. Then, using purchased 6 foot wide chickenwire netting (1") as my guide, I placed a freestanding closet on the West side and covered the open space with the netting, creating their yard. The closet faces in and is completely open, providing some much needed shade. I cut a short door in the backside, which faces the garden, so I can feed and water them.

ok so heres mine

simple and easy made all pvc pipes and chicken netting with a trap for protection and a bin for their nest they love it... i let them rome free durnin the day and locked up at night..

I absolutely know that no harm was intended, but just so we know, where I live "redneck" means an ignorant bigot who happens to have come from the country. It does not mean "a country person." So that term could be offensive

As I said, I know that no one intends to be offensive here.

That said, I have an ugly made from an old, leaning shed that I'll post here tomorrow. Love this thread!!

Had somone tell someone else that I should be allowed to adopt another pet because I lived in a Trailer. LOL I live in a double wide AKA Modular Home, lol Most of the houses being put up around here come in 2 or more sections.

This is my first chicken coop, I went with the chicken tractor. I've fallen in love with this system, keeps my hens happy and healthy and must be pretty good for my small field. I move the coop two to three times a day and the RIR's love it! They get excited when they see me coming because they know treats and new greens are on the way, all I have to do is wheel them around the field!!! This was all found materials, excluding some of the poultry netting. Thanks to the guys at Sunshine Cycles in Athens, Ga for letting me raid their wheel pile! I'm glad to have this experience, can't wait for chicken tractor #2.

Those are the nest boxes on the outside, four nest boxes for four hens..... a little overkill this time, but now I know!

You can see the bicycle wheels that the cool guys at Sunshine Cycles in Athens, GA let me have. They will be getting some eggs soon!
