Here are some pics of Dolly's progression from a few days before her first run in with the buck to yesterday I think it looks like she's steadily been getting bigger, but hard to tell in the last 2 picks

The first pic is on 9/7/14, the next on 11/27/14, then 12/26/14, 1/15/15, and the last was yesterday 2/1/15. The 3rd one was the night she had the string of goo

I can't wait til ours start hitting the ground. Crazy goats ... we had two that looked like they were going to go any day and then they slowed their changes and still have ligaments. Argh! I'm getting impatient. Plus I just know they're going to have them as soon as my guard is down. LOL!

Ok goat keepers maybe you can advise me. We are getting two pygmy goats on Thursday both 6 months a doe and a buck. They share the same grandmother so I don't know if I can breed them. If I can't is it too late to band the buck? I went to Tractor Supply and got the goat pellets and the sweet feed and a bale of hay. I also saw something like solid minerals in a black bucket for goats is that a good product? Also how much pellets and sweet feed do I feed them,since our grass is just starting to wake up? I had goats 20 years ago but I just can't remember.

You don't want to feed goats sweet feed. It'll cause issues. Oats and alphalpha with a good hay.

We feed a mix (that we do ourselves, not a prepackaged mix) of crimped oats, alfalpha pellets, goat pellets, and BOSS (black oil sunflower seeds) and they get access to good hay, browse, and clean water at all times.


Edit to add ...as for minerals we allow full time access to loose goat minerals. Whatever form you use be sure it is specifically for goats ... not a sheep and goat mineral.

If not the sweet feed, what types are better. What types of issues will it cause.

I shop at TSC and Blue Seal. I typically by my goat feed at Blue Seal it is the Caprine Challanger feed. They offer 3 goat feeds, The Caprine Challenger, a meat goat feed and also a premium milk goat feed. I figured since they aren't for meat and they as of yet don't provide us milk that the other would be best suited for them. They are almost 2 year old Nigerian Dwarf Does.

They also get daily hay, loose minerals and a mineral block, also fresh water daily. Sometimes I also give them a mixture of seeds including BOSS.

Been reading this thread in case I decide to get goats in future and just had to jump in and say that... Loving all the goat pics and especially the babies - but may just have to leave the goat keeping to you all
