Let's talk Cuckoo and WHITE marans... breeding strategies...

So ErEr is a Birchin based cuckoo? I am horrible with the genetic codes sorry.
Yes, I made them using a birchen two generations back.
Then I bred the single bar cuckoo males to the cuckoo hens that also carried the birchen. This year they are showing much more of the birchen markings.
The one to the right is still a single bar male.

They are considered barred birchen. At least that is how I understand it.

Look like silver duck wing to me... very cool. Are they autosexing at hatch? I have my first hatch of silver birchen cuckoo... I think I am looking at a male and female here... I will have to grow them out to see for sure. They are from a silver birchen roo to a golden cuckoo ER/ER female... no goldens yet but more eggs to come and I know dad carries gold.

That is a cute one much brighter than mine but my hens were E/Er so maybe that is why. Don't be surprised if he shows gold in his juvie feathers. I had some GC that looked silver for the longest time then all of a sudden gold!! :)

I was trying to help Dave figure out if they were 100% sexable by down color. The little pullets had black "eyeliner" so I would say most likely. I didn't hatch and grow enough to really say 100%.

Hello everyone just wanted to drop in and say hello....Hello. I have been reading back over the posts and have enjoyed looking at the new projects and crosses way cool. I am not here to be critiqued that'll come in due time when my projects are finished. My only goal is to share and compare notes with anyone interested or working on similar crosses. I had decided a while back to put a Birchen cock over some cleaned leg Cuckoo hens in hopes of feathering the shanks a bit. The project is going as planned I hatched out single barred cocks and black pullets with nice, but not overly feathered shanks. According the calculator the next cross will yield four color variations, Cuckoo, Black, ER based cuckoo, and Birchen. In next cross the Cuckoo coloration and the Blacks some will be EER I guess you could say split for Birchen. I am wondering if that one copy of ER will express itself anywhere to allow me to pick out the EE based Cuckoo and EE based blacks. The ERER based Cuckoo and the ERER Birchen should be no trouble to spot. My goal is to continue with the Birchen Based Cuckoo. I also have a Golden Salmons to put over some Cuckoo's in hopes of creating a Crele. Anyone who wishes to compare notes please do I just want to keep it simple and enjoy my backyard hobby. Here are some pics of my first cross and the young GS.
