Let's talk Golden Cuckoo Marans!

Pics
hi Chickee .if you have access to a dark Black copper eggs Especially from Bev s stock. go and get them and recreate a proper Golden cuckoo Marans able to lay a dark egg. Because if there is a dark egg than is no point just a Golden cuckoo variety.

you all ready have a Golden cuckoo Rooster So you just need 2/3 Black copper hens and few years crossing back word and forward and ET Voila you will have a nice proper GCM your line you don t have to add any thing to t.

that what I think.

I ll help you with a genetic side of t and witch F1 birds you choose from .I m doing t my Self is Fun but if you do t properly will pay you. you ll have people want to buy. and they are worthy to sale as Marans.

Hi Morbius18. Did you the cock Golden cuckoo in the French page Crow-wing ( Black wing triangle)
I translate what they say about recreating them. them suggested you can use a silver cuckoo bird with ;A) Black tail Buff .by using this variety you not only adding the Golden Gene but you adding as well Db and Co ( Colombian restrictor gene )

B) Black copper; with this variety you will get ER looking bird ( Black copper with a Cuckoo/Barring Gene) like a silver Cuckoo .is a Birchen hen and Cock with a Cuckoo /Barring gene ER/ER. and they call them Coucou a camail Argente' (Cuckoo with a Silver Hackel ) for a silver variety.
they call the Golden cuckoo .coucou a camail Dore' ( cockoo with a Golden Hackel)  Camail in french mean Hackel

So they are not saying just Cuckoo ( that will be strait cuckoo E/E  family) not marans

No red Brested Hen or White or Cinnamon Wing Triangle . Ewh or e+/e+

I m working on this project with a french Marans Club peoples and .they are guiding me through to recreate them properly recording to they standard. we don t have a standard in Australia so we work with a French.

People are free to do what they want with they chooks. But Standard is a Standard.

We are lucky to have you giving advice, as you are working directly with the French club. We also do not have a standard for the Golden Cuckoos here in the United States.

I personally believe they look better ER based, but I look at very successful and huge contributions of people like Bev toward marans who said e+, and it made me wonder if I was incorrect. But it is refreshing to have the input from you chooks man, and confirmation of what I thought about the genotype of the Golden Cuckoos.

Good day Morbius18.
Bv s she know what she s doing.
All what I m saying if you use e+ birds double dose e+/e+ we will have to cull a lot to get ready of the Autosomal Red.
if start with a e+ bird than we have to introduce the ER bird to the cross. than we ll have a ER/e+ bird ( ER is dominant )
As long as there is ER there we ll have a better result with less culling.

hope that help and clear the think up. I m not her to criticize any body s work.

The Autosomal Red Ar+ gene is the gene responsible for the Salmon breast to the Salmon hens .

I agree with you, I dislike the salmon breasted hens. Mine are ER based because of that very reason, I just discovered it in a very round about way. I'm all for questioning and picking apart things, It makes us better breeders. If someone hadn't originally done that, we'd all have wildtype red junglefowl instead of hundreds of breeds.

We only learn when we do things. we help each other and correct each other if we are wrong
Breeding chooks is a good fun I recon .

one question for you ,You guys mantion a lot a Golden Cuckoo. is t maran ? or just another Golden cuckoo breed .?

cheers

I understand better now. So your Rooster the Golden cuckoo in the page 50 he is just finishing his molt is a ER bird and he s DF too .He s a pure maran or work in progress ?.
He is hand some .

He's a pure Golden Cuckoo marans. When I got him, I didnt get any golden hens. Later I wished that I had, so I'm creating some for him so I can work with the line.
