Lets talk Kitchen sinks... What do you like?

One time I replaced a sink in this beat up mobile home I had that didn't fit the hole right. Ended up cutting the hole bigger for the new sink. Doable, but only if kitchen drawers and such are not in the way underneath the countertop.

again, also depends what your existing countertops are made of

overmount for tile or formica

undermount for granite or quartz... but if this hasn't been done in the past edges may not be finished/polished

I love my stainless steel sink. It's a double.
While it would be nice to have a larger one tub sink for many reasons I also love having a garbage disposal so I wouldn't go that route. I like to keep my disposal side free for use while doing dishes.
Mine is just a normal double sink but it's fairly deep.
If I had it to do over again and price or space wasn't a factor I would get this.

This one would suit me fine too.

I haven't read everything, but if you are not replacing your countertop at the same time you are limited by your existing countertop. You need to find a sink that fits the same template and the basin fits in the same cabinet footprint.

If you previously had an over-mount sink and are keeping your counters, you likely need to buy a new over-mount sink as the counter edges won't be finished properly to install an under mount sink. Under-mount sinks can typically only be installed in solid surface countertops (granite or quartz NOT formica or tile) due to the need to have a finished counter edge around the sink.

I do not live in a family where every dish gets cleaned every day after every meal. I like having a sink with two basins so that dirty dishes can be in one and then I still have usable sink space left for other things, washing hands or veggies or draining off boiling water etc.

I have never had anything other than stainless so cannot comment on that.

Well, I guess that eliminates undermount, because I can take the tile out. :he

This!! Completely drool-worthy.

I know right! :drool That was not at all what I was expecting.

Roomy how about you redo the whole kitchen.
:th

I'd take it. :lau Look at that backsplash. :bow

This! Being able to fit large pots in the sink is fabulous!
Yes, that what I like about my NEW farmhouse sink. We had a stainless steel double sink when we moved into this house. One side (the one with the disposal) was small and USELESS IMO. HATED that sink for 25 years. We just remodeled the kitchen and I wanted to take a sledgehammer to that thing myself. It always had water spots, no matter how often it was wiped. I have a dishwasher, but the new sink is big enough that if I wanted to hand wash, I can just put a rubbermaid dish tub in it and have the rest for rinsing. The one downside is that the bottom is so flat, that stuff doesn't automatically go down the drain, but we got a sprayer and that makes it easy to rinse down.

All really good points. I definitely want to be able to soak large pans, but hadn't thought about washing hands while someone is doing food prep.

Dobie is the black granite you're describing like VW's? It sounds beautiful.

Shannon, I'm off to search triple bowls. My thoughts might be dated, but if I remember correctly they are the two standard squares with the small shallow basin in the middle?
One thing you need to keep in mind as you are searching for your perfect sink is the type of drain you have. Is it an "S" trap or a "P" trap? If it's a "P" trap, how much room will you have between the sink tail pipes and the waste arm that goes through the wall and into the drain? I had to re-position my rough-in plumbing to drop the waste arm to accommodate a deeper sink than what was originally in the sink base.
