At least you all only had rude customers.....

I had a 24" iron pry bar thrown at me because I was helping the person who had gotten there before he had. It missed me when I moved out of the way and ended up knocking a chip of cement out of the floor where I had been standing. It was 2 weeks before Christmas. He was escorted out of the store by a really nice officer.

I am more than nice to the retail workers that deserve it, though some of the kids I've had to deal with lately leave a lot to be desired in the customer service department.

Actually, nowadays I hardly ever ask. I get the life story. I'm not paid enough to be a psychiatrist. But that's not all!

Being a supervisor, we also get the lovely people who request managers to yell at, because the cashier if following company policy. When we follow the company policy, we get yelled at some more so they want to talk to a higher manager. Guess what that manager does? Goes along with it making both the supervisors and cashiers following company policy look like retards... You just can't win when you're lower management. You get yelled at by all sides..

My retail job of the past was at Victoria's Secret. The women were horrid, but the men were always nice and shy and really appreciated the help. Women in VS??? You aint seen nothin til you see a woman be told she needs a bigger size.

And it usually isn't the cashiers fault the line is moving so slow. It's the customer, who was just loudly complaining about waiting so long, that can't find their credit card, wants to count out change, decides to write a check, can't find a coupon, all while doing a poor job of trying to stop their children from trashing the store.

Well I am not one of those people (above), but the other day it was my turn at the register. Yes I had alot of food there for Christmas, but the boy serving was too busy flirting with the girl at the cash register next to him. I finally lost it, sorry. The other register opposite had another person with a load more food than me and they started threw before me and plus two more people got served after them. So I blew up. I told him to keep his dam social life away from work and to speed up because at the rate he was going at it will be 2010 by the time I get my groceries home.

By the way - no coupons - no cheques - no looking for penny's, just used my credit card.

I always pick the SLOWEST cashier.

I warn people who get in line in back of me that they will probably get through quicker in another line.

I've had people thank me as they leave.

Some people wait until the last minute because they don't have the money before that. Some people have to wait for Christmas bonuses, etc.

I think if you don't like people and you dont' have the patience to deal with them, you shouldn't work in retail. don't blame your customers for your own lack of empathy and patience.

It is easy to get hard hearted real quick in the retail trade. My wife went to work part time at Wally World. It didn't take her long to start wondering what a 350 pound diabetic women was doing buying $300 worth of candy.

She gets real angry sometimes at the food stamp and wic people for trying to buy things they shouldn't. Same people all the time trying the same tricks. If she goofs and lets something slip by, she would be canned.

She just smiles and tells them they can't do that.

I wonder if I could edit that to be 'Letter from a Fast Food Worker' and stick it up at work. I like customers, I love happy friendly customers.. I detest 8 people families who push to the front of the line with NO IDEA what they want, rudely spit orders at me while trying to stop their kids from running in circles, whinge about me about taking to long to get their food (after taking 5 minutes to order) and then come back and complain I got it wrong. Pretty sure I would have had your order in under 3 minutes if you had taken the time to work out what everyone wanted first!!! Bah

That being said, I'm as nice as I can be to retail workers, unless they do their job wrong. God help you if you do a cruddy job in front of me, I will let you know, LOUDLY and will shame you in front of everyone!!
