LF Partridge Cochin gender

Hello! I ordered some chickens from Meyer Hatchery a while back, I asked for one male partridge Cochin and three female Cochin from the assorted batch. I ended up with a white, silver laced, and another partridge. The partridge that was supposed to be female is looking and acting a little male, so I was just hoping to get a second opinion since I have no prior experience with the partridge color.

It's ok that you posted here. Lots of new members post questions here.

But yes, the one in question is growing a large comb for this age. However it still maybe too early to tell. Pullets can grow large combs too at this age and other than the comb, the feathering looks the same as the one that looks like a pullet.

So I think you need to wait a couple more weeks before you can be sure. Keep an eye on the legs. Cockerels grow tree trunks for legs early on and will be much larger than the pullet legs.

Welcome to BYC. It's a little early to make a definitive guess, but I'll go out on a limb. The one bird is definitely a cockerel, and the other is PROBABLY a pullet.

I agree, I think that adorable chick with the big, beautiful eyes is a cockerel and the other is a pullet like you believe.

Thank you for the responses! I hope you all are right. Although I wouldn't have to give any away if they both turned out to be roos, it would be nice to have a pair of partridges! I'll post more pictures soon, since the supposed female is growing a rather large comb (in my opinion). Her color is staying light though, unlike the boy's, which is getting very dark and black.
