LGBT chickens? Is this possible?

Is it possible for a chicken to be homosexual, bisexual or transgender.

Also curious as to why you are asking?

Animals are not humans, as much as some people try to see human traits in their chickens. But with living animals you never know what behaviors you will see. They each have their own personalities. Some are different and may not have their gender straight.

If you see certain behaviors with them don't assume they are doing that for the same reasons a human would. When a cow is in heat, it is not unusual for another cow to mount her, not just a bull. That doesn't mean she isn't a cow in every way, but the smell of those hormones has an effect on some. It's also not unusual to see young calves mount each other, especially young males. That doesn't mean they are not all bull.

With chickens mating behavior is often a lot more about dominance than fertilizing eggs. If there is no rooster in the flock it's not unusual to see the dominant hen mount another hen or pullet to show she is dominant, even going so far as touching vents. Roosters and especially cockerels will sometimes mount other males to show their dominance. A lot of the uproar cockerels cause when they hit adolescence is not about sex, it's about their hormones telling them to dominate the hens and pullets. Most of the time with the other cockerels its with fighting but it can involve forced mating.

I don't know what you have seen. My guess is that it is nothing to worry about. That can be pretty common behavior.

I have a chicken that is like that. She lays eggs but she also has spurs and she is my lead hen in a flock of nine.I have even seen her mount one of the other hens.
Almost all of my hens have spurs. I have one older hen with spurs nearly 2 inches long. They are undesirable in many breeds but allowed in Penedesencas.
Cochins are cute!
Perhaps why they mounted him.:gig

I'm sure the roosters I had were doing so out of domination, it was quite clear.

I have read about goats who are ..homosexual..and even some who love human men more than does, so they turn them into wethers...umm..fix them..to be good company for does..so I suppose why not chickens too..I’d love to hear why you’re asking
