I posted on here a while ago about issues after changing feed. We fed a group of quails the feed we fed before and a group the new feed, they have been on the feed for about a week at least. Left is the old feed right is the new feed

Feed ingredients really do make a difference in the color of the yolk. Many feeds add Marigold extract to color up the yolks even more.

Can the colour mean anything about quality of feed? or is it just cosmetic
Yes and no. Feeds with a lot of plant proteins will contain more carotenoids, xanthophylls and luetins, all of which color up those yolks. You would have to experiment with birds free ranging and birds completely confined to know what is responsible for color, free rangers get more plant stuffs. And the health of the birds can reflect on the color as well.

Just make sure to use a feed with good protein levels and a variety of grains as opposed to just corn which a lot of feed producers use because it's cheap. Of course added vitamins and minerals. Purchasing a more expensive feed and a popular name brand is best as well. Color of the yolk doesn't necessarily mean anything but a darker yolk is better for your health if you consume them.

Sold my extra rabbit cages today, as well as a trio of OEGB. Including PeeWee the Loud. Only have the one hen left inside, and she's sitting eggs right now. Outside, I have three cockerels and three pullets. Want to sell one of the cockerels, and the other is my grandson's. Got $$ as well as some meat (pork and beef) in exchange.

Guy was interested in ducks, too. Told him I have a breeding trio of Muscovy for sale, and he's going to talk to the wife about it.

Now I just have to figure out how to get to the bank and deposit the $$ so my bills don't bounce!
