LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Also this is me. I am tall (5'11") and built broadly and used to get a lot of jokes about being a dude.
TBH - probably the first time I experienced "being cis". That's how I know I'm not trans, even if I lean androgynous. XD

I'm only 5'8 but am also built broadly! Wide shoulders and smaller hips - basically if I was a dude I would have made a good football player. 🤷‍♀️ I'm also pretty chonky and wore strictly hoodies and jeans in HS to hide it because I got tired of being bullied. But they bullied me for my clothes after that 🙄 you can't win in HS

Hey @ChocolateMouse I have had two Californian rabbits for three years. M/f the male neutered. In a super freak accident one of them passed away this weekend. Can I/should I integrate another rabbit with the survivor? These are pets but I figured you might know....

Very busy today. Now that I have a moment to breathe I can answer.

I did start into rabbits with pet rabbits. :) It might help to know if you have a doe or buck left as bucks integrate with anyone. Does get territorial and integrate better with bucks only.

In my experience it REALLY depends on the rabbit. I'd say that since they're fixed adding another fixed rabbit of a similar size and age has a good chance of working, but I'm talking like 75%, not 95%. There's plenty of stories of folks getting another rabbit and them never getting along. Happened with me, but mine weren't fixed.

Just like with chickens it's best to do see-don't-touch for a couple weeks and introduce them slowly on neutral ground. If you're going to bring in a new rabbit, bring them in on a cage cleaning day, rearrange their furniture and dab a spot of vanilla extract on both their noses that day to kill their sense of smell for a few hours. Rabbits recognize territory through smell and markings and get more aggressive about "their" space when it's heavily marked so disrupting that sort of creates an "ownerless" space when you bring the new bunny home and puts them on more even footing and helps it seem less like an invader. I'd then do the same thing again the first time you try to let them out into a communal space together.

Lots of Yule presents getting made. Anyone else working on holiday stuff?
Yeah, I handspun up some wool for my mom (she crochets like crazy), got a couple of anti-wrinkle shirts for dad, got a friend a small aerogarden, and my husband is getting a wet shave set (the bowl and brush) with locally made hot process soap which is being dropped off tomorrow.

@eggsandhens My sister and her husband have a black tree that's pre decorated that they just bring down from their attic each year because they hate tree decorating.

SEE, that’s what we usually do (we have a tinsel tree with multicolored lights and a Death Star topper), but she wants to go all out this year, so I guess we have to. After all, she is the queen of the house 😂

@Kusanar That all sounds like really nice gifts! I bet the handspun wool is gonna be really nice. :)
These are the ones she is getting, not a ton of any of them but all 5 should make a nice beanie with a decent cuff on it.

I made this one with 4 skeins the same size, it doesn't have much of a cuff but it is SOO warm!
