Yeah that's true, sometimes hatches can go wrong. I personally feel more bad for the mom, having spent all that energy and love. Like yeah ok we want cure fluff balls, but the bird sat down for 21 frigging days, sensing the babies developing underneath her, waiting for the time to teach her children everything she knows, and then bam, nothing
I agree completely, broodies work hard, they waste away to some degree, when things go wrong it's a drain on the hen for nothing. These things happen. But I try to limit the eggs broodies set on, keeping all other hens out of her nest, and never stagger eggs either. Usually things go well with this system for me.
