LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Went out at sunset to put the others to bed. Still no sign of any missing chooks...

Maybe it was too dark and they've decided to roost some other place? Birds do change roost sites if something traumatic happens. OEGBs are very resourceful, and good fliers as well. There might still be hope

I agree. I'd wait until day tomorrow to start giving up hope. The number of times I've thought a bird was snagged only to have them waltzing up to the door the next morning after searching for Ober an hour the night before in rather ridiculous

It was still light out. But yes, I've had them do that last Fall when the fox attacked. They all scattered into the trees, and were quite silent. I'm just more worried because the temps are dropping again for several days. If they got away from the fox, I'm hoping they found somewhere they can at least huddle together.

The chickens from the other coop were very subdued today... As were the ducks, for the most part. Not as much loud quacking, although they were probably not *as* traumatized, since two of them were mating on top of a snow pile. >.>

Found fresh fox prints in the snow today. Even in the duck yard! I know my fences aren't high enough, but this has really freaked me out. Been going out several times to make sure everything is okay.

On one of those journeys out, I thought I heard chicken noises coming from the cedars by the road (these things are MASSIVE, over 100' tall, and quite wide). I couldn't see anything, and of course the noises stopped when I approached. Stupid birds...

BUT, when I came back out again about an hour later, to check on them, there were chicken prints in the snow! I tried to see if I could follow them, but they ended at my path to the coops. Sooooooo, went to look and there's one of the OEGB hens standing at the door of the coop that still has birds in it, looking longingly at them (or the food). I scooped her up and put her in, and she went straight to eating.

She has a small scab above her beak, but otherwise looks to be unharmed. I considered bringing her inside for the night, but I don't want her messing up her thermal control. So she's in with the others for the night.

Glad you found one hen in good condition! Hopefully you can find some more, and hopefully that fox stays the duck away!

Using some Hobby Lobby roving now. Only 15% wool though

Ah. That strange balance between not agreeing with what your Christian family says about being LGBT, but DEFINITELY NOT SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY!!!!
They still don’t realize I’m part of the group yet. Planning on waiting until they realize.
The other day, we were talking about the rainbow flag, and I very subtly asked my mom “aren’t there different colored flags for each group?”. I’m apparently the only one in my family who knows there’s more than just the Rainbow flag (queer, right?) and the transgender flag.
But, on the bonus side, one of my dance teachers is pansexual! And one of my friends is Bisexual! So I’m not alone.
Just thought I’d share an update on my situation. How y’all doing?
