@ChickyCh00k How is the baby this morning? :fl ❤️

@ChickyCh00k I hope your baby is doing better today :hugs !
Y'all are the kindest, bestest people.

Peanut made it through the night. Azygous responded to my other thread and advised that o give her the sugar/salt/baking soda solution every hour through the night (as well as extra heat). So, I wrapped a heating pad in a towel and put it in a crate with Peanut and syringed the solution into her for as long as I could stay awake (and as much as she would allow).

I finally let her (and me) sleep around 4am and I woke up again a little after 6am. When I let her out of the crate, I figured I'd see if she'd eat a little. I tried wet mash, but she's never had it and was not havin' it now. Then, I put a pile of dry crumbles on the dish and she went to town! :celebrate

I decided to take her back out with her flock (and of course it's pretty chilly here in Michigan this morning). Once I put her in with the others, she immediately went to the waterers with them and drank a good few gulps!

I don't think she's *totally* out of the woods yet. She is back to the neck-pulled-in-puffed-up look, BUT it is a big improvement from yesterday.

Thank you so much for your kindness and caring. It is truly priceless to be able to find support in these forums.❤️‍🩹

This is fabulous news, :wee I am so glad she is on the mend!! :woot Keep up all the lovin' and care, and keep us posted! ❤️

Found out that a second broody, that decided to sit on eggs not long after I set eggs under the first broody, has too many eggs for her to be sitting on.
Surprisingly they are all developing! I assumed only a few would be but I'm wondering if other hens were sitting on them
I tried my best to divide them up evenly to give half to our third broody hen.

She just died!!!!

I'm utterly distraught. I was sitting with the chicks, Peanut was eating, drinking, walking around - looking so much better than yesterday. Then, all of a sudden, she walked a few steps fell over, flapped her wings and went limp. I picked her up and tried to revive her. She couldn't stand or do anything. Within a few minutes she was gone.

I just can't fathom what happened. My coop cam caught the whole thing and it is just bizarre how she seemed totally fine, and then totally not within seconds. Grief stricken doesn't even begin to describe how I feel.

Perhaps she had a weak heart from the beginning and this coccidiosis and treatment was too much. I'm absolutely flummoxed.

OMG...I am so so sorry!!!! :hugs This has got to be difficult on you. 💔 I am and was suspicious she could get deficient in VitB1 so fast. Coccidiosis does kill fast however once they start to slide, they didn't usually have ups and downs like your little one did. I think you are right, she may have had a heart condition (murmurs and holes in the heart are not uncommon) and this stress would definitely have pushed her over the edge. Anything else could have been wrong too organ wise. Not all chicks are born with a clean bill of health internally. Anyway, my heart goes out to you, :hugs you did everything possible to save her. She knows how much love you poured out to her. And I'm sure she will always be at your side in spirit. ❤️🥰 :hugs

Thank you for the sympathy. I'm exhausted. After last night, and seeing that she seemed so much better this morning, I just can't believe the series of events that unfolded in the last couple days.

Yes, I think you're right that she had some type of weakness from the start (she definitely was one of the smallest) and this illness pushed over the edge. I just feel awful. As I'm only in my 2nd year as a chicken lady, I've only dealt with one other death and that was a hawk and my hen was a year old. Seeing what happened with this baby was heartbreaking in a totally different way.

She was the sweetest little thing. The ONLY one who wasn't afraid of me in the first weeks. She was always the first to jump up on my lap and I was really quite fond of her. It's a lousy feeling for sure.

This was the day before she got sick:
