LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Update. I went out to check the egg and it's gone. I had that broody hen and the egg blocked off to where only I could get to them so I'm not sure if she decided to eat it or if something managed to get through.
I don't see any evidence of what could have happened

I think permaculture is just as much about finding out what is workable for you as what is not. Chickens are definitely a big part of our system here.
And I've killed so many plants! They make good compost :p This year I have had mild success with peas (supposedly an easy plant! ha!) in my garden for the first time ever, while my tomatoes (usually tried and true for me) are struggling along. A goal this year is to keep our new apple trees alive and happy through the dry season and to design and build a new temporary chicken coop so our flock has somewhere to go when we start to tear down our old barn.

One side of our family usually has a big get together on the 4th and I don't feel much like going this year. Lots to do and don't really feel like celebrating, though I might take some food down to the local pantry instead. Tangible actions always make me feel better or at least, like something I can do matters.

What kind of mini models are you working on JacinLarkwell?

Oh no, I am sorry about the egg! Do you happen to have squirrel or snake problems where you are? I've had them steal eggs from places I thought were secure before. Hopefully your hen didn't decide to eat it. Either way I'm sure you are disappointed.

DnD, I have a thread I started earlier that has pictures of the finished ones.

She was in a spare brooder that was covered with 1/4 in. hardware cloth all over.
Only a human could open it and nobody is able to get to it without setting off our dogs.

I'm going horse riding for the first time in 3 and half years tomorrow

Wish me luck because I'm scared
I have no idea how well or how awful I will be after that break.
I dug out my hat, gloves and boots.... all ready....
I haven't gone riding in decades :( I envy you! Have fun! :hugs

I used to ride when I was a kid. I took English and Western lessons and LOVED it. Now, I'm terrified to get on a horse. I suppose the older I've gotten, the more my mortality has become *real*. :old
