So I think I may have figured out why I have a shortened shift week. I kept forgetting to ask about it and I realized that it's probably so I can cover shifts??
They keep asking me to cover when someone calls out.

Could be..... I'd still ask.
You'll have to decide if you want more regular shifts or be 'on call' and not get enough.
Or maybe switch off week to week.
