LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Idk what you guys think about the topic. But I think I am a believer that animals can be gay. I don't see why they couldn't be, we're essentially animals too
But their situations are very different to ours, so I'm not sure we'd pick up on it if they were. Many animals don't get a choice in mating/reproducing, so we'd never know- but in situations where animals mate for life, I'm fairly certain there have been documented cases and observations of same sex birds etc. I may be wrong, I'm trying to recall an article I read a long time ago
I'm in rhe "humans have a higher brain function" camp. Maybe life maters are in-between? But I think it's more of a 'who's avaliable when I've got the need to breed'issue with most animals

Got a cat in hospice right now. I'm the first person home, so if he dies during the day, I'll be the one to find him, and he stays in my room most bights to keep him warm, so if he dies during the night, I'm most likely the one who will find him.
Sorry to hear this. Yeah, that would be a bummer.

But remember, he needs you and your love and support.

This is a valid argument
I think it depends whether they can develop attraction to one sex, which is probably debatable. For example, I definitely wouldn't call my girls straight- they definitely do what they do for "love"- not dominance. They take turns standing on eachother and its entirely consensual on both parts.
But if they had a drake, they may decide the drake is fulfilling their needs better and not bother with eachother anymore.

So I wouldn't say most animals are straight or gay, they're just normal, natural and acting on instincts and hormones. If that makes sense? Or perhaps it's a spectrum for animals similarly for people, and most are somewhere inbetween? I don't know.

But I do believe that some of the more intelligent species have the capacity to have strong preference. So I still hold the view that they "can" be gay, in theory.
Maybe scientists will learn definitive answers, either way, someday
