LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

I'm starting to think about a pond design for the ducks (that'll come in two years or so:rolleyes:) I'd ideally want something that only needs to be cleaned once a week
Once a week, you'd need it to be fairly large
My paddle pool needs cleaning every 2 days, and that's just for two ducks

And if its large, you'll probably want a plug, or even a filter, to make clean outs/maintenance easier

My dumb self attempted a dug out pond, thought "yeah, I can clean it every week by hand"

After carrying heavy buckets for over half an hour, I decided to fill it in and get a paddling pool, lol! Never again, without a filtration system 🤣 learn from my dumb mistakes.

Filtration I can do, I have aquariums. Size, eh not so much. I don't have that much room to spare for the water
Oh? What kind of fish do you keep?

I'm also afraid that I'm going to go too big and then the muscovy will rarely use it

Mine don't use the pools as often as the 'regular' ducks.

I've only kept nano aquariums, housing betta in planted slightly acidic biotipes, but filtration is even worse to pull off in small scale so I'm pretty confident there. That's encouraging to hear. Hoping with an OK filtration system and the awesomeness of muscovy I can get by either less cleanup than expected

Nano aquariums are awesome
Tbh I wish I'd just gotten a betta... I have goldfish and boy they're messy greedy fish.

My youngest is in a little tank currently, I thought she was big enough to introduce to her mum and sister... put her in, sister came to say hi, all good
Mum decides she's food and charges towards her, I managed to shield her very quickly and net the little one. Good reflexes. So yeah, poor Primrose is outcast for a little longer.

The rest of her siblings aren't the best quality, some mild defects which I didn't mind, but they aren't growing like I'd like them to. Just not a good batch, so I'll likely cull them soon.
They weren't planned, it was my male fish who decided babies were a great idea. I didn't hatch many so it's my fault I didn't get many good ones.

Yes, it's always been a bit of a sore point with me that they sell small aquariums as 'beginner' ones. Then all the fish die, and people are turned off of fishkeeping. It's way too easy to overload the biological capacity of a small tank than of a big one.

I've kept (and bred) many different species over the years. One of my favourites was a South American cichlid tank, fully planted.
