LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

The flocks got switched so the breeding ducks are free ranging.
I bought 3 ducklings yesterday from Wilco because my old coworker convinced me to buy them as they were 50% off.
Somehow they escaped last night and the breeding ducks have claimed them as theirs.
I'm starting to get confused by my birds.

Since the breeding ducks have claimed the ducklings as theirs, I haven't had to use anything for heat. I've just been checking on them throughout the night and the females have been allowing them to be underneath them for warmth.
Can anyone explain why my non-broody ducks and even my 2 drakes are taking care of ducklings?

I had a Japanese bantam that did that. Hated grown birds with a passion, but give anything wanting a mama and she would take it as her own

They weren't even supposed to be in with them but now I can't even grab the ducklings. 2 of the females keep hiding them away from me whenever I attempt to
