LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Oh I am really really sorry. :hugs It really does suck, these birds really know how to build a nest in our hearts and its heart ripping and shattering when they pass. đź’” Especially those we've hatched, we created life, parents shouldn't see their children die. I've lost so many birds over my lifetime and it never gets easier. :(

I wish I could reach through this thing and give you a hug, shed a tear with you. My heart goes out to you. :hugs ❤️

Thank you, sincerely :hugs . I've lost many many birds too, sometimes very horrifically, and it never truly gets easier. What gets better are the coping mechanisms, maybe

Yes I think we learn techniques to cope as we age, or maybe our reaction to emotions doesn't fire as easily. These losses definitely leave ever lasting scars, they harden a bit over time but never heal completely.

On a brighter note, Cruella and her chicks had another amazing day

. I kind of want to hug her, maybe because she'd also feel grief (although very, VERY intense compared to what I feel) if she lost one of her chicks

Aww....❤ I love her crest, it's floofy boofy, :love such pretty colors. 💖 Chicks are growing!

I've hugged chickens after a death in the flock, even cried in their feathers. They've always gotten confused when they see me crying and will sidle right up and stare at me closely. I'd like to think they are consoling me.

I love her crest too! I really do hope her chicks are growing, and will continue to grow, for many years to come. My birds don't let me that near, but I do believe that they feel and know more than we think

You see those babies every day so to me I can see how much bigger they are. :p Remember, they were tiny enough to fit inside of an egg about 5 days ago! :D

I turn my birds into big babies. :gigThey beg to sit on my lap, follow me around like drooling puppies, expect me to carry them in and out to free range. :lau

Just because you aren't close to your birds, I would like to think yours have a bond with you on a caring level as well. They understand you care for them, feed and water them, watch over them and would never violate their trust. You are the flock leader and creatures that use the flock system are VERY tuned into their leader, they DO feel and understand you more than you know. You are communicating on subtle levels as they are communicating to you. They can tell when you are sad, mad, happy, distant, etc...

I do feel like they are in-tune with me on some level, though I'd like to think that the group leader is the male chicken, and I'm just the weird human they like because he brings food and let's them out each day. Big Red is EXACTLY how you've described your birds

Did you raise you birds from chicks or did you aquire them from someone else as adults?
