LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

29 today and already got asked by a complete stranger about when I'll be having kids as the time is running out.
Not sure if I've mentioned here but I don't plan on having kids at all and if for some reason I changed my mind to have 1 kid, it's going to be me using both a donor and a surrogate.
I have plans to eventually ensure my body is unable to have kids. Can't remember or be bothered to look up what the medical name is.

What a RUDE question.

First, none of their business. Second, really, time is not running out; my mom had me at age 36 in 1962 when that was "old for having kids."

I knew when I was about 12 that I didn't want to have kids. I chose to not have any kids. I told my husband (boyfriend at the time) that I didn't want to have kids and wanted to get my tubes tied. That was fine with him. (Good, because if he'd wanted kids, that would have ended the relationship.)

I have had people look at me funny when I said I didn't have any and didn't want any. My sister thought that was "sad." A high school friend of mine said, "You'll change your mind," in a very matter-of-fact voice. People have said I wasn't "fulfilling my destiny."

It is ok for people to do things with their lives that do not include having a family. Leave them alone.

Happy Birthday. And many, many more!

And someone doesn't need to have kids to have a family. Me and my partner are still a "family" even though my disability makes it unsafe for me to have children. And we are also part of both of our parents' families. Its very rude when people assume others need children to have fulfilled lives. And also a very hard thing to hear when you want kids but its just not an option for you. (Such as myself).

My chick order shipped today, they substituted the red sex links for black sex links so instead of 6/5 of each now I am getting 11 blacks. I have never had BSL's so I am not sure how to feel about this...
But anyhoo, 20 chicks coming! The tracking says arrive Thursday, but it says that every year and they have always come on Tuesday. Although I did not get chicks last year I hope nothing has changed.

Nerve wracking, they are still in Ohio and I am in California.

I will continue to refresh the informed delivery app in the meantime..

Good luck with your new chicks! I have always preferred the BLS, personally.

Yup, BSLs are certainly not as unhealthy or as prone to reproductive issues. Way calmer too, which can be either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the general nature of your other birds.

I found RLSs incredibly smart, bold, bossy, and sometimes funny. The best matriarch I’ve ever known or read about was a small little RSL hen. Never again though. Not worth all the issues they have later in life

Good to hear, I have had RSL's but these are new to me, this is also the largest order I have ever put in. I am not sure what I was thinking other than go big or go home!

I have been working on new space for them, and it is done enough so that's good

Hopefully they arrive on time.
Our oldest hen was a black sex link. She almost made it to 10 years old.

They’re nice birds, quite beautiful too!
Best of luck with them, I think we’d all love photos of the chicks when they arrive :p !
