Light Sussex Thread!!!

Just wait for a couple of months and see what they look like. These are absolutely gorgeous chickens. That crisp black against those snowy white feathers is soooo pretty.

Hi,
I have utility Speckled Sussex right now. Have started Light Sussex coming this Spring. The Light Sussex, like all Sussex, is a close-feathered breed. I think lack of this being close-feathered is a problem in Light Sussex. I don't know how to breed a loose-feathered bird so its descendents are close-feathered. However, I think this knowledge would be good help to some strains of Light Sussex.
Best,
Karen in western PA
I did find out how to breed closeness of feather into Sussex or any bird in which it is needed or desired. Select for improved egg production. An increase in 25 eggs per bird per year will result in more closeness of feather in that bird.

Just for interset.

Her's my Candian Sussex (maybe with a tiny litttle little bit of aussie i could find out lol). But i am sure this is almost all 100% Candian. U of A lines, and a show line. along with a few misc. lines the UA lines are from the "Mother Flock" one of the first if not the first light sussex imported in to Canada from Europe. The way they were bred means they have almost all genes every one could need they just need to be bred for. One of these hens has very large breast, you can see the dorking influnce in them. Maybe not in the pictures but in person you can!

Only one of the hens is smaller.

Hey Guys these hens have laid 7+ eggs in less then a weelk (i think it's good for coming all the way across Canada, and in thier moult. the weight of them is between 53-65 grams/

I'm interested in getting light and buff Sussex but have not found any sources in the US.
Does anybody know of such a hatchery or breeder?
(It would probably have to be chicks, since I don't trust my skill level with hatching eggs.)
