Light yolk color on freshly layed eggs???

Thanks for asking this question- I have one americauna pullet that is laying a light yellow yolk. My flock free ranges over an acre and a half of grass, weeds, bugs etc.and has access to unlimited layer crumble, water, stone and shell. They get a daily treat of leftovers, scratch and fish based cat kibble. I hope it is the protein thing, as she is low on the pecking order and may not be getting enough treats. The liver and spinach suggestions will get tried out when winter kills off the bugs and grass. Great resource site!

I feed my girls a little cracked corn in the evenings, and they free range from 11am to dusk.

I've never seen a yellow yolk from them - just a vibrant orange.

I also give them scraps of leftover meats when they are available - bacon, ham, chicken (it feels so wrong but tastes so right!) They go crazy for meat.

The main thing though is that they get free access to an excellent quality layers pellet, and I set up additional bowls of it around the yard, so that when they are ranging they can still get some.
