Like giving crack to a drug addict .....

Mine prefer whatever they can find in the yard too. They didn't want a pumpkin at Halloween because there was a whole yard of goodies just waiting to be discovered. Oh well....
I give them a cup of BOSS every day since the grass died back, plus kitchen scraps.

My girls love scratch, warm meals, greens, layer pellets, anything that moves or doesn't move, . . .
Get the idea? My girls are PIGS. Someone called them "pigs with feathers". Oh how true.

Mine eat all of it. I mix crumbles and scratch together (not alot of scratch) maybe a can full mixed in with the huge container I give them. Or I mix some cracked corn in, whichever I have that day.

OK, went to the barn this morning with my camera.

Just to give you a inkling as to what goes on in there......

These are about 2/3 rd of the flock. The rest are still roosting or have already had their "fix" from the feeder.

These are the WORST offenders. Of course they are the "hippie chicks".

I routinely see one of them IN the feed storage pecking away. Little heathens.

NICE PICs,

My girls go CRAZY over bread ! I take them out a few slices of day old bread everyday.

I don't know if this is a GOOD or BAD thing, but they LOVE IT.

I have 15 chicks and I take 3 slices of bread a day out there. I throw it out a few pieces at a time and they run all over the place trying to get a piece. I call it Chicken Areobics !

Ok this is definetly a subjext I need in...I have 30 in my flocks in 4 coops, they are fed Mash and that's all they know. I never thought of Pellets! I did onetime and they didn't touch it so I thought ok wrong feed and never got it again. The literally attack the gate, jumping up and even landing on my arms to get to the feed. I'm going through I think 1 50lb a week. I just know it seems like a lot. So which is better as far as nourishment and cost? Now I'm saving all left over every drop of it for them. So how much should I be feeding my flocks? I feel like they must be staving!! How much feed per chicken? I even do my reg. Refrigerator cleaning and have a chicken bucket.

Mine silly girls will not eat scratch! They like corn, but not the oats and other things, but they love wild bird seed. I guess they think they were born to be wild.

We give a handful of scratch every other day or so. What we found they REALLY love as a treat are mealworms or kingworms. They're basically a grub of some beetle. Kingworms are a bigger version of mealworms. You can get them at any pet store that sells reptile food. Talk about tweekers. I've seen best friends fight over these things. They're relatively cheap, usually $4 for 50.
