Limping chicken?!

Question:

Although he’s just now showing symptoms... I wonder if this is related. So this batch of bantams, I rescued from someone who had found them in a local park around Easter. Assuming someone got them as “cute” Easter gifts then dumped them. They were probably only about 5-7 days old when I got them, but if something happened as a chick, could it possibly be related?

The vitamin B complex was discussed by @Wyorp Rock in post 11. It can be helpful with leg problems related to riboflavin deficiency. Dosage is 1/4 tablet daily crushed or grated onto food.

You might want to call the state vet pathologist to discuss this being a backyard chicken in case the price is cheaper. I did that last winter with the Ohio state poultry vet, and found out the price for a necropsy was only $23 for a backyard chicken, not $100 as I had read several times. They said that Mareks could be diagnosed with a necropsy many times, but confirmation with a Mareks test would cost extra, since they had to send it off to another lab. Some state labs insist on sending the necropsy results to a vet of your choice.

Update on Chuck:

He’s still limping, but still getting around great. Last night I picked him up in the coop and something seemed to “pop” in his left leg / upper thigh. It appears that this may have helped a bit, as he’s actually putting weight on his left leg now, and the limp has gone down. Fingers crossed my little guy heals up well.

Hi again!

Thought I’d send out another update. Here’s a couple videos. Chuck is doing great. His limp is only slight now, he puts weight on his left leg again, and seems to be gaining back some muscle. :) He still has a little limp and favors it a bit, but it seems to be getting better everyday. Thanks for all of your wonderful help!
